Chapter Thirty-One
The Truth Between Us
Zara's POV
I slowly opened my eyes, my body aching as if I had been asleep for days. The familiar scent of burning firewood filled my nose, grounding me in something warm, something safe.
For a moment, I couldn't remember where I was. Couldn't even notice I was no lo get in that horrible place.
Then, I blinked. Turned my head. Trying to get a good rest. And saw him.
Hunter.
He sat close, elbows resting on his knees, watching me in silence. His dark eyes held something unreadable—relief, anger, regret—maybe all three.
A strange tension hung in the air, thick and suffocating, like we were both waiting for the other to speak.
"Are you okay?" His voice was low, rough."Are you really ok?"
I sat up slowly, ignoring the stiffness in my limbs. "I'm fine." I said trying to avoid some kind of question at that moment.
