She’ll Do A Fine Job

Above the mortal realm, a resplendent city of gold and sliver and pure white marble and golden light unflured beneath the endless azure- Heaven the celestial beings move around gracefully with effortless elegance through the crystalline avenues, their beautiful huge wings as white as snow leaving trial's of stardust. The tree's shimmered with golden dust and the beautiful voice of the angels echoed through without an end with streets made of Gold.

Indeed it was a place of enternal rest and place set for the good hearted after their life on earth no pain or sorrow, just peace where everyone wished to be at the end of their lifetime.

The celestial council chambers, a grand hall of ivory and silver echoed with the gentle hum of the angels singing, as two high ranking angles, Ariel and Zadkiel stood before the council elders. The two angles were discussing the growth of the choas on earth, their voice's hushed but filled the concern.

Zadkiel his voice stern yet compassionate expression, addressed Ariel.

"Earths balance is shifting we hardly get any souls in heaven- something that should never happen"

His wings shifted slightly betraying the gravity of the situation. Ariel her features dented with worry, she turned to leave but stopped she glanced at Zadkiel saying

"But there was a time when we got to many souls in heaven it was perfect satan saw this and decided to send his brother as a retaliation we can't keep sending the same angles with the same approach Abaddon isn't like Lucian"

"Perhaps another unconventional approach?"

One of the elders chimed in, looking at Ariel and Zadkiel who looked at each other. The next moment, the grand hall resonated with deafening blast of the trumpets summoning every angel in heaven the strength of their wings was so powerful it felt like the core of the heavens shook, as the flew confusion etched on their faces.

Among the sea of flawless angles, there was one who didn't quite fit- purity. She was the shortest of all the angles and her wings were small and less whiter from the rest. Her halo always bent to the side and was forever tripping on her feet. Her hair was always a disheveled mess her, golden curls always in her face no matter how many times she pushed them back.

Her eyes, were a brilliant blue she was dressed in a standard white robe, but stained with various unidentified stains. Her chubby cheeks always flushed from embarrassment, exertion or her constant clumsiness. Despite her chaotic appearance, there was something undeniably endearing about her. Where other angles were perfect images of beauty purity was like a warm fuzzy painting- beautiful in her imperfections. Her smile, would light up the whole celestial realm.

The trumpet blast caught purity off gaurd causing her to jump, accidentally falling off the tree she sat on but picked herself up and flew away. Though her flying was wobbly her wings giving out mid flight she wasn't the last to come in. She was immediately used as a last minute messenger which annoyed her greatly.

As the trumpet blew again, purity shrieked causing her to drop the heavy books on her foot.

"Ow!"

She yelped bouncing on one foot and holding the hurt one flapping her wings awkwardly. Cassius, a slender angel with impeccable wings looked at purity unable to conceal his smirk as she hopped past him

"Graceful as ever pure"

His voice mixed with mockery, purity stopped mid hop her cheeks flushing redder than usual she straightened up, dropping more feathers in the process making more angles laugh mockingly.

Before purity could speak confront him she tripped on the books causing her to topple forward the hall fell silent before erupting in laughter, causing purity's eyes to water something that had never happened

"ENOUGH!"

Zadkiel's booming voice suddenly cut through the amused chatter silencing the hall instantly. His stern glare fixed on Cassius which made even the most poised angles shift uncomfortably

"Your teasing is unbecoming for an angel of war Cassius"

Ariel watched as purity picked herself up dust off her robe and picked up the books resuming her task unharmed but her cheeks were fiery red. She knew purity has always been sensitive about her clumsiness, Cassius teasing normally hits a nerve

"Show some mercy Cassius"

Zadkiel stepped forward his eyes scanning through the sea of angles

"The council has summoned you today because heaven has a unique challenge for you all. A task that requires every angles help no matter how small or big their role is, Abaddon getting stronger his influence….we're losing the wars on earth"

At this, purity who was carrying another set of books smaller ones this time, looked up her heart skipped a beat. Could they be referring to her?. She shook her head banishing her stupid thoughts

Cassius chuckled stepping forward, spoke up without hesitation

"I volunteer to lead the charge against abaddons forces!"

He declared confidently, his wings flustering with excitement.

"I'm a skilled warrior of the heavenly army my powers of healing will be valuable as well"

Ariel looked at Cassius, a slight frown on her face. While his skill were undoubtedly powerful but his arrogance could be a liability.

She spoke up calm and measured.

"While Cassius offer is approved the task requires more than strength and healing"

Zadkiel watched as Cassius smirked faltered slightly, he knew his powers, his strength and bravery but his pride- disappointing. Another angel stepped up Uriel the angel of wisdom a tall angel with a childish face his platinum blonde curls bounced slightly as he stepped up his wings also spread wide

"This task needs intelligence not just might I volunteer to come along"

Cassius glared at Uriel his hands balled into fists his knuckles turning white, in the middle of his silent rage Light- the angel of mercy stepped forward. She stood up tall, her voluptuous figure encased in her flowing robe that accenated her curves rather than hiding them.her figure always earned whispers around from angles either of jealousy or amazement all in all her beauty was admired but her mercy and compassion was respected

"I volunteer to come too someone has to make sure someone doesn't kill vulnerable humans"

Her hands crossed as she glared at Cassius. Purity looked at the books on her hands then at Ariel who was starting directly at her like she knew what she was thinking.

"If that'll be all then-"

Wait!

Purity interrupted Zadkiel she placed the books in the arms of another angel who looked at her with disbelief she raised her hand shakily as she stepped forward a path cleared like the Red Sea

"I….I want to join the quest too"

"Don't be stupid! She'd only get in the way the devil will find us immediately if she comes along she'll ruin the mission, we need skilled angles not bookworms you aren't even participating in any department of protection!"

Purity surprised everyone, herself included by marching right up to Cassius, her hight reached the elbow of Cassius but her eyes burned with something they've never seen before.

"You are a big jerk! Just because I can't fight and not smart like Uriel doesn't mean I can't help too I have something you don't and that's LOVE!"

She spread her wings widely, a funny sight since all the angles have larger wings. Cassius getting irritated swatted her away like a fly causing her to lose balance almost falling, but light caught her just in time.

"Cassius, purity is an angel too her clumsiness doesn't define her worth.what if her love is the way forward?"

"Love!? Love won't win in battles and I am not going to be responsible if Abaddon slashes her clumsy ass from existence"

"Language please!"

Ariel shouted, but before she could scold any one Uriel held purity firmly by the hand

"Let her come along, she wants help let her help! She has currage without ego, kindness without pretension she'll be perfect"

Uriel's words hung in the air his wisdom making his words arguable

"You call her stammer stupid her falls weakness her kindness gullible and her courage foolishness"

Something In Cassius snapped he lunged a sudden crack of thunder echoed through the hall. A massive thunderbolt, it's power unmistakably divine, slammed in between the two angles the strike sent them crashing back their wings and robes billowing from the impact.

"Enough!"

Zadkiels voice boomed through the hall, shaking the very foundations of heaven his anger like a living thing his eyes blazing with fury.

"Stop being ridiculous! You're all acting like children fools Cassius you're a fool!"

Ariel shouted her voice piercing peoples ears. Ariel's blunt declaration shocked into the silence, with a decisive nod she declared.

"Purity is going on the mission if strength wisdom and mercy were enough we wouldn't need an angel of love"

Purity flew up to the balcony hugging Ariel tightly who In turn patted her head affectionately to the eye's of mortals she's an angel who existed since the beginning of time but to the celestial beings she's just a kid even Lucifer knows.

"You'll do a fine job" she whispered softly, Zadkiel nodded solemnly as he gave them their roles while on earth.

"Uriel will lead the group, Cassius will command the battles, light you will help souls turn from their bad ways and protect them

And purity…..purity….purity…purity….."

He mumbled not sure of the task to give her that won't land her in trouble, but soon his eyes lit up

"You will bring souls who made heaven as of when due!"

Ariel nodded as that means she gets to return to heaven everyday that way she's safe and everyone is happy. But purity's legs shook.

"What if I fail bring the wrong person here"

"Mistakes are for everyone, no body is perfect only God is"

Light nudged purity slightly, making her giggle. Zadkiel watched the interaction between them his harsh features softening slightly

"You angles…..too kind for your own good. Remember once on earth you are powerless."

The hall erupted, everyone chattering.

"But why?!"

Cassius asked clearly flabbergasted

"What do you mean powerless do you want us to die how do we fight if we are powerless?!"

"You won't be able to fly to use your power I'm sure you won't be able to sing too thats human life….. we can't risk your divine aura oozing out even if Abaddon doesn't find out humans will put two and two together"

Ariel said before holding out a small white box with gold designs

But you will receive a tattoo I'm afraid, it will seal your power by keeping them dormant. Until activated by your heart's desire or a critical moment of need only then will your Angelic abilities return"

As the angles sigh of relief Zadkiel says

"Using your powers will drain your energy rapidly since you will in the mortal realms influence so be smart and calculate"

Ariel opened the box revealing huge needles and a bottle with golden liquid inside the elders laughed mockingly watching as the angles loose their cool over a needle

"This may sting…"

Ariel smiled as she picked up a needle opened up the bottle dipping it inside, when she brought it out it glowed. Purity although being afraid stepped forward her eyes filled with childlike wonder as she helped out her wrist the tatoo was a simple cross tattoo, just as Ariel finished it glowed a golden light before resembling a normal tattoo.

The others got the same tattoo as well, as they walked away Zadkiel stated solemnly

"Sending purity on this task is a brave step….it's grave even"

Ariel who had her eyes on purity simply said

"She'll do a fine job"
