"Alright, let's drop it. It's not appropriate to fight in this kind of setting..."
Donavan, who was in the middle of kicking, turned his head in disbelief when he heard her words.
"What did you say? We're not going to fight anymore?"
Callie nodded nervously, but after seeing Donavan's uncomprehending look, she decided to keep her mouth shut.
"Callie, I know you're soft-hearted, but don't forget how he treated you back then. We're doing this to get revenge for you!"
"Yeah, Callie, isn't Donavan just doing this for your sake? Why are you sticking up for this lowlife?"
The others complained, but their blows against me didn't let up one bit.
"Don't tell me you still have feelings for him? Wouldn't that mean Donavan's being cheated on?"
As soon as these words were spoken, Donavan's face instantly darkened, looking extremely unpleasant.
He turned to stare at Callie, his tone displeased:
"Is that really what you think?"
Callie's little face turned deathly pale, and she quickly shook her head, stepping forward to cling to his arm.
"How could that be possible? I only love you, Donavan. How could I possibly fall for someone so poor?"
"In this life, I only love you, and in my past life too!" Callie's eyes sparkled as she used the excuse to voice her true feelings.
I let out a cold snort. In my past life, she had hurt me in countless ways for Donavan's sake.
Yet in this life, even though I'd granted her wish, she still wouldn't leave me alone!
Callie's gaze towards me no longer held any pity, only an icy, bloodthirsty glare:
"His life is worthless anyway, but this ballroom isn't really ours. Why don't we move somewhere else to teach him a good lesson?"
The people around her nodded in agreement: "This ballroom was booked by Seraphina to celebrate her becoming the new prima dancer. It wouldn't be right for us to beat someone up here..."
Upon hearing Seraphina's name, I stretched my bruised and battered face, whimpering:
"Let me go! I'm Seraphina's..."
But Donavan didn't let me finish. He grabbed a dirty rag from nearby and stuffed it into my mouth.
"How about this... Let's drag him to the back room. That way, we can punish him without holding back!"
As soon as Donavan suggested this, everyone cheered in agreement and quickly dragged me to the break room.
I desperately curled up, trying to avoid being tied up by them. I cannot swallow my fear. What horrors await me if I'm trapped in there?
As I watched the door to the lounge slowly closing, a despairing whimper escaped my lips.
All I could do was clutch tightly at the wallet in my pocket, desperately seeking some shred of strength from Seraphina's photo.
Seraphina is still waiting for me!
My tight grip on the wallet caught their attention. The fat one stopped swinging his fists and roughly grabbed my hand.
"What are you hiding? You're not trying to secretly call the cops, are you?"
I shook my head vigorously, begging him to give it back.
The fat guy snorted derisively and opened the wallet. When he saw the small photo, he suddenly erupted in thunderous laughter.
"You actually carry around a picture of prima dancer Seraphina? As if you're worthy of even fantasizing about her!"
"Prima dancer Seraphina is the world's most brilliant dancer, like an angel descended from heaven! You think someone like you has any right to admire her?"
Hearing this, the others all burst into raucous laughter:
"Oh my God, this poor loser Eames actually dares to have a crush on Chief Langdon. I bet he's just frustrated he can't get with Callie, so he secretly fantasizes about Chief Langdon at night!" Everyone was laughing at me, thinking I was chasing an impossible dream.
