Chapter 5

I wanted to speak up and explain, but the filthy rag was jammed tightly in my mouth, making it impossible for me to make any sound.

Only Donavan and Callie looked at me with eyes full of resentment and frustration.

Callie's face turned red with anger as she shouted at me:

"Eames, didn't you always say you only loved me?"

"So you've been unfaithful in your heart all along, haven't you!"

I rolled my eyes in exasperation.

I can't believe that even at a time like this, all she cared about was whether I like her or not.

Donavan viciously raised his leather shoe, grinding it hard against my face:

"As if you're worthy of liking Chief Langdon. You must be dreaming!"

"She's one of the world's most exceptional prima dancers, elegant as a swan. Countless men are waiting for her favor. Don't kid yourself!"

Donavan was extremely agitated, grabbing the photo and tearing it to shreds.

My phone started vibrating, playing Seraphina's special ringtone.

I quickly twisted my head, gesturing for them to answer the call.

If they just heard her voice, they'll know my identity!

But they turned a deaf ear, continuing to use their hands and feet as if they wanted to take out all their anger on me. I stumbled backward violently, crashing hard onto the marble floor, my mouth filling with blood!

The sight was horrifying to anyone who witnessed it.

I could only grit my teeth and endure, silently praying for Seraphina to come quickly.

After what felt like an eternity, Donavan's phone rang, and he immediately answered it with the utmost respect.

"Chief Langdon, when are you coming? We're all waiting for you here!"

A woman's anxious voice came through the phone, and Donavan's face grew increasingly grim:

"What did you say? There's... no one else here..."

"A man in a denim jacket... Could it be..."

Donavan broke out in a cold sweat, covering the phone and looking at me in disbelief.

"Chief, who exactly is this person you're talking about?"

The woman replied, enunciating each word:

"He's my fiancé!"

In that instant, everyone present heard it crystal clear, and the atmosphere became so tense you could hear a pin drop.

Callie's eyes turned blood-red as she grabbed my collar, unwilling to accept it:

"Didn't you say that in this life and the next, you'd only love me?"

Callie quickly regained her composure, pressing her lips tightly together, her gaze deep and unfathomable. "Seraphina only gave us a vague idea. Maybe he's been stalking her fiancé and deliberately copying his style?"

Callie seemed to be reassuring herself as she snickered, "Don't you remember? Back in the day, he used to copy my outfits every day to drive away my admirers, making people think we were wearing couple's clothes."

"Too bad everything he wore was cheap knockoff brands. How could they ever match my high-end clothes?"

"It's the same now. Even if he's dressed identically to Seraphina's fiancé, he's still just a fake. Let's keep teaching him a lesson!"

Hearing Callie's analysis, the others chimed in agreement:

"Yeah, Chief Langdon would never go for a broke loser like him!"

They comforted each other and started punching and kicking me again:

"Deceiving Callie's feelings is the first major crime!"

"Not showing any remorse is the second major crime!"

"Daring to impersonate Chief Langdon's fiancé is the third major crime!"

"Even if God himself came down now, he couldn't save you!"

Most of my clothes had been torn to shreds, barely hanging on my body.
