- Okay, take this report to the local base and this one to Metropolis. Don't get them mixed up," I said, handing the two folders to Hassan.

The reports didn't differ much in the first part. But the second part had completely different information. I decided not to report anything about the meeting and conversation with Aquaman to the people at the local base. They do not need it, and can only bring unnecessary problems. Also, I don't have to report to them that much. In fact, even a simple message that the job is done and the threat is eliminated, albeit temporarily, would be enough.

Also in the report to my superiors, I pointed out that we will need to create several branches of our bases in major cities, quite strongly connected with the supernatural. For starters, it would have to be, San Francisco, Gotham and Central City. We have an official office in Washington, D.C., though it exists more to receive and sort reports from around the country about the supernatural, and to promote us in the press and on the internet.

But in any case, it may well provide us with a place to live there, as well as monitoring various situations in the town. That's where the members of the squad I'll assign to the mission of catching a serial killer in Washington will have to go.

In the meantime, we can do the summonses. After all, I've found a flat for a couple of days, and I'm pretty well settled in. Maybe today I'll get some good powers through absorption, or some good subordinates. It's going to be decided now.

System, make the first summoning.

The summoning is in progress.

The victim's soul is evaluated.

A suitable summon is sought...

Appeal found.

The summoning was successful.

The Vanisher from Marvel Comics has been summoned.Power level: 9.

What will you do with him?

Summon/Absorb/Store him in storage

Hmmm, Vanisher... Familiar, though vaguely familiar. If I remember correctly, he appeared in a couple of X-Men comics I read in a past iznia. He was a villain who could teleport.

Heh, I think I finally got lucky. Teleportation is very useful in my situation, and it would have been much better if I'd had it sooner. Let the takeover begin. System!

The darkness engulfed me once again, forcing me to immerse myself in someone else's life.....

*****

In a poor neighbourhood of a metropolitan area in the United States, a fairly ordinary boy was born. And in such neighbourhoods it was very difficult for him to grow into a good person. From childhood he was surrounded by not the best company.

Parents alcoholics, as well as neighbours-drug addicts did not teach the boy anything good. But still, like them, he did not acquire bad habits, which was not bad for his future life.

However, such a life did nurture something sinful in him. Namely envy of those who were more fortunate, richer and happier than him. And the boy did not care what efforts they had made to acquire such riches, because he was only a child.

And as he grew older, this feeling within him grew stronger and stronger, until it turned into something else. Namely into a desire to take it all away, making the boy decide to become a robber.

His childhood in the middle of the streets had taught him a lot of things, though mostly fighting, provocation and pickpocketing. And such skills came in handy for his new goals. He started out without much violence, stealing from the homes of the rich and similar hot spots.

He remained undetected for quite some time, until he began to gather associates around him. After this move, his stealth immediately became very close to zero. While he himself rarely worked simultaneously with his sixes, those still got caught quite often and weren't so nice as to keep their mouths shut.

This eventually led to the authorities coming onto the guy during another case, leaving no avenue of escape. At that moment, the still quite young guy was in an incredible emotional fit.

And it was this state that helped him at that moment to survive. For so, he was able to awaken within himself an incredible power that allowed him to teleport to a safe point. That guy didn't even initially realise what had happened.

However, when it came to the guy, the mind of the already quite former thief was filled with various plans, of varying degrees of criminality. With such power, he felt omnipotent. After all, what could be more useful to a thief than being able to instantly find himself in another part of the country at a mere wish?

However, along with the appearance of great power, the guy gained something else. Namely distrust, because he understood perfectly well why he originally found himself in the situation where he awakened his powers.

After that, he kicked out almost all of his subordinates, leaving with him only the most loyal. And from that moment on, he was very careful about recruiting new recruits. In addition, he did not reveal almost anything to the new recruits until they proved their loyalty.

However, with the acquisition of a new force, not only his organisation had changed, but also his ambitions. For now he didn't shy away from robbing banks and far more dangerous places. After all, what could hold back someone who could teleport anywhere he wanted. The walls of a bunker? Incredibly advanced locks? Safes that are almost impossible to crack?

There were no obstacles for him, and that led to him getting too cocky. And eventually, the grown-up kid went after something that was too risky.

He stole top-secret US Army plans and demanded ten million for their return. It was already incredibly brazen, but compared to the guy's next action, at least it wasn't as stupid.

Overwhelmed by arrogance and permissiveness, he teleported straight to the White House with his cronies to personally collect the ransom. That was his greatest mistake.

That day, much to the guy's bad luck, Charles Xavier, an incredibly powerful6 telepath, was in the White House, causing him amnesia and making him forget about his own abilities.

Unable to resist, the guy and his six were calmly seized by the guards of order, putting him behind bars for a long time, and reclaiming their property.

In the prison itself the guy was not easy, because he lost his memory and simply did not understand what was happening. However, the inner feeling of envy, which he nurtured all his life has not disappeared. And it was it that made him remember everything again.

After all, when the guy was provoked by respected people in prison, they simply said that he was much worse than all those people from whom he stole. This made the criminal so angry that his memory came back to him.

He escaped from prison almost immediately, right after he punished those who decided to put themselves above him.

Immediately after his escape, he decided to do away with such trivialities as trivial robberies. After all, he knew that the world was full of people as powerful as himself. And together they could do the impossible.

And the criminal found such people, and together their goals also appealed to him. For what could be more ambitious than to take over the whole world. For a man like him, nothing!

Joining them, he began to help the boss from the organisation in his attempts to take over the world. However, this help made him realise that there were a bunch of people in the world who didn't want to use their abilities to benefit themselves and instead help people, which was pretty stupid in his opinion.

He would never have dared to think of teaming up with such people ever, but circumstances were different. The very person he had obeyed turned out to be not human at all, but an alien who wanted to take over the earth for his race. And such a thing did not please Vanisher at all. In his opinion, such a thing was even worse than the current government. As much as he disliked the government, at least there were people at the head of it.

After defeating his former boss, the guy went around the world, having fun and not trying to start huge ventures again. This time, however, his luck failed him.

He was captured by the government because of a coincidence, and this time headed not to the usual prison, but to a place where there were people capable of suppressing his powers. And these people were not known for their generosity.

The guy became the most ordinary test subject, who was subjected to experiments that even the most experienced hypocrite would not dare to call human.

And all this led to a quite expected end, namely death. A painful death alone and on a laboratory table.....

*****

- Fuuuuuh, that wasn't very pleasant. Although this Vanisher's flashbacks were almost emotionless this time around, there's still not much pleasant about them, especially in the last years of his life. Watching a film about a first-person victim of inhumane experiments isn't very fun, to be quite honest.

However, there are still some things I want to check out. I tensed up a bit, after which I thought of a certain place, and within a couple of seconds my surroundings were completely different. Instead of a rather cosy rented flat, I was standing in the middle of a dirty alley. However, this caused me nothing but joy.

After all, the very point was that the alley was in Washington, DC, which was in a different part of the country. And I love that. Okay, let's do a second check, already more global. My surroundings changed again, and now a familiar desert appeared in front of me, exactly the one I had once fought in.

Although I felt a little more tired, I was sure I could teleport many more times, even over long distances. Great, just great.

With such cheerful thoughts of a power that opened up many new possibilities for me, I happily appeared in my flat and decided to continue the summoning. Who would fall to me next?
