Liam's eyes seemed to bore into the maid's soul, as if searching for any hint of deception. After a moment, he nodded, seemingly satisfied that she was telling the truth.
"Very well," he said. "You will be punished for your role in this, but I will spare your life. However, if I find out that you are lying to me, or that you have withheld any information, you will regret it."
The maid nodded, tears of relief streaming down her face. "Thank you, Master," she sobbed. "I will tell you everything, I swear."
Liam turned to one of his guards. "Take her away," he said. "Lock her in a cell, but make sure she is comfortable. I will question her further later."
As the guard led the maid away, Liam turned to Cherry, who had been watching the scene unfold with a mixture of horror and fascination.
"Are you all right?" he asked, his voice soft with concern.
Cherry nodded, still trying to process what she had just seen. "Y-yes," she stammered. "I'm fine."
Liam's eyes narrowed. "We will get to the bottom of this," he promised. "I will find out who is behind this and I will make them pay."
Cherry felt a shiver run down her spine as she looked into Liam's eyes. She saw a glint of steel there, a hint of the ruthless man he could be when provoked. And in that moment, she knew that she was safe with him, that he would do whatever it took to protect her.
Liam's expression softened as he looked at Cherry, and he reached out to gently brush a strand of hair out of her face. "You're safe now," he whispered. "I won't let anyone hurt you."
Cherry felt a wave of emotion wash over her, and she leaned into Liam's touch, feeling a sense of comfort and security that she hadn't felt in a long time.
Just then, one of Liam's guards appeared in the doorway. "Sir, we've found something," he said, his voice low and urgent.
Liam's head snapped up, and he turned to the guard. "What is it?" he asked, his voice sharp with interest.
The guard hesitated, glancing at Cherry before speaking. "It's a note, sir," he said. "It was hidden in the maid's room. It says...it says 'You'll never find me'."
Liam's eyes narrowed, and he turned to Cherry. "It seems we have a game on our hands," he said, his voice low and menacing. "But don't worry, I'll find out who's behind this. And when I do, they'll pay."
Cherry felt a shiver run down her spine as she listened to Liam's words. She knew that he was a powerful and ruthless man, and she had no doubt that he would stop at nothing to find out who was behind the attempt on her life.
Liam turned to the guard. "I want you to investigate the maid's background," he said. "Find out if she has any connections to anyone who might want to hurt Cherry."
The guard nodded and turned to leave, but Liam's voice stopped him. "And find out who wrote that note," he added. "I want to know who's behind this game they're playing with us."
As the guard left, Liam turned to Cherry. "Don't worry, I'll take care of this," he said. "You're safe with me."
Cherry nodded, feeling a sense of relief wash over her. She knew that she was in good hands with Liam, and she trusted him to keep her safe.
But as she looked into his eyes, she saw something there that made her feel uneasy. A glint of determination, a hint of ruthlessness. And she knew that Liam would stop at nothing to find out who was behind the attempt on her life.
As the day went on, Cherry couldn't shake the feeling of unease that had settled in her stomach. She knew that Liam was doing everything he could to keep her safe, but she couldn't help but wonder who was behind the attempt on her life.
Liam seemed to sense her unease, and he made a point to stay close to her throughout the day. He even went so far as to escort her to her room that night, his eyes scanning the hallway as if searching for any signs of danger.
As they stood outside her room, Liam turned to her and took her hand. "I'll be right next door," he said. "If you need anything, don't hesitate to call for me."
Cherry nodded, feeling a sense of gratitude towards him. "Thank you, Liam," she said. "I feel so much safer with you here."
Liam's eyes softened, and he smiled. "You're safe now," he said. "I promise."
As Cherry went into her room, she couldn't help but feel a sense of relief. She knew that Liam would do everything in his power to keep her safe, and she was grateful for his protection.
But as she drifted off to sleep, she couldn't shake the feeling that she was being watched. And when she woke up the next morning, she found a note on her bedside table that made her blood run cold. "I'm still watching you," it said.
