CHAPTER 3

~CHAPTER 3~

~KIMBERLY'S POV 👠💄~

"Have a seat miss Gilbert." The Head of department said to me. I pulled up a chair and sat down nervously.

The whole environment seemed so cold.

"So here is your office seat number, get acquainted with your colleagues and strive to do your best here cause we only want the best." He said to me.

I looked at his office name tag sitting on his desk.

Mr Williams.

That's his name.

"Thank you Mr Williams. I'll do my best to make the company proud." I said to him and he dismissed me, still looking displeased.

I left his office to go find my own office.

As I walked down to find my office, the people here kept staring at me, and I know it's probably because I was a new face in their midst.

When I sighted my new office corner, I excitedly pulled out my chair and sat down, admiring the whole space for some time.

Wow. Nice feeling. Though I would have done anything for a spinning chair.

"Hello. You must be new. I'm Ashley." A blonde girl said to me from her own office corner as she peeped to mine.

Everyone's offices was interlinked, we could all see each other if we were all standing, only the short brick demarcation was what separated everyone's office corner.

"Hi. I'm Kimberly. Nice to meet you." I said to her and she smiled.

Okay. She seems nicer than others.

"Let's get lunch together today so you can introduce yourself better to everyone." She said to me and sat back down on her chair.

Introduce myself to everyone. Okay. Easy task.

I brought out some of my personal things I had in my bag that I brought from home to decorate my office desk a bit.

A picture of my late parents, to give me strength, a snowball with a dancing princess inside, it was a gift from my aunt. Then A lucky charm sticker, my twin siblings gave me those sometime ago for luck.

After I had finally settled in, getting a little comfortable with the office. Someone dropped off a pile of files on my desk and asked me to go through it quickly. I studied the files and they were just various visions and plans the department was engaged in as of recent, I excitedly studied them so I wouldn't slack behind too much.

Wow that's alot.

"Hey new comer, time for lunch. Let's go." The blonde girl, Ashley said to me.

"Okay okay." I packed up the rest of what I was doing and got up to join her.

~~

We both went to the cafeteria to get some food with our tray in hand. All the food they served here looked so delicious and I'd say I have never even tasted anything that looked that good and expensive before.

"Wow." I say out loud.

"What?" Ashley asked me.

"The food, they look and smell so delicious." I said to her and she chuckled.

"You're just saying that because you're hungry. Also they do serve tasty food here. That's because the chef here is one of the best in the country." She said to me after getting everything she needed on her food tray.

She made her way to a table full of our co workers and I followed her closely behind.

"Hello guys. This is Kimberly. She's the new girl." Ashley introduced me to everyone.

"Hi." I said to them while waving my hands at everyone and some of them acknowledged me by smiling or nodding while some didn't even look at me.

"So, what's your last name?" One of the girls there asked.

I remember her. She was the first person I had asked a question earlier when I just arrived but she completely ignored me.

"Gilbert." I answered her.

"I don't know of any 'Gilbert' around here who is of importance. So how exactly did you get employed. I know it's not because of your explicit background or education because those are a let down on their own. I saw your files." She said to me and gave me a fake smile.

"Beatrice, would you please stop. I didn't bring her to the table for you to insult her." Ashley defended me.

"I wasn't insulting her. I was barely stating Facts. Don't tell me you took it the wrong way?" The Beatrice girl asked me looking at me innocently.

"No. Of course not. It's fine." I lied.

I think I'm going to stay far away from that one. She's a typical mean girl.

Cliche.

During the rest of the time, I just stayed quiet, observing and listening in to everyone else's conversations while enjoying the delicious food.

The best food I've ever had if I'm being honest.

Sorry Mom. I loved your cooking too.

After eating lunch, everyone returned back to the office.

I wanted to make a quick call to Serena and tell her how everything was going so she wouldn't worry. I stepped out of the office for a few minutes for the call.

(Hiiiii!!! How's it going? How is it? Tell me everything. By the way are you even supposed to be making calls right now?, isn't this a working hour?) she kept asking.

(It is . I just wanted to hear your voice and for you to hear mine. And to tell you that It's great here. Everything is just how I imagined.) I said to her.

(That is wonderful to hear and I cannot wait to hear the rest of it in details. I'm glad you get to live your dream now. I would love to talk more but I don't want to distract you from your job and get you fired on your first day. Now get back to work!!) she practically yelled on the phone.

(Okay okay okay. Geez. I'll see you when I get home.) I said to her and ended the call smiling.

I turned around to see Mr Williams and Two other tall Men coming out from the elevator to my direction.

Oh no. He caught me outside.

And whoa, who are these two Handsomeness with him.

They might be workers here too.

But the way they look says otherwise. They look too too confident and proud even to be just ordinary workers.

But wait... One of them looked very very familiar to me, like I've seen him somewhere before.

"Miss Gilbert. Shouldn't you be in the office, working?" Mr Williams asked me and I panicked.

"Umm. Yes I should. I should be in the office which is why I'm heading right back inside now." I said and hurriedly ran into the elevator going up to my floor. But Mr Williams and the two handsome men joined me in the elevator.

I stood behind them silently as I observed the men, especially the familiar one.

Wait.... I think I'm beginning to recall where I met him.

The first day I came here for the interview.

The man I locked eyes with for a couple of minutes.

That is him.

Did he recognize me too?

Probably not.

I wonder who he is and what his job is around here.

"I believe this is your stop." Mr Williams said to me when we got to the 19th floor.

"Oh. Yeah that is right. Aren't you getting off too Sir?" I asked him when I stepped out of the elevator.

I glanced briefly at the Man whom I was familiar with and saw his eyes were already fixed on me.

I looked away quickly and focused back on Mr Williams.

"I have some other businesses to attend to." He said to me and I nodded, looking briefly at the Men beside him before the elevator door closed back.

Okay. That was weird.

I went back to my desk and finished up the remaining files and documents.

Took me what seemed like forever but thankfully I completed my task for the day.

Once it was 4pm, everyone packed up their stuffs and started leaving the office one after the other.

I didn't carry much so I just picked my bag and made my way home.

When I was out in the driveway, I saw everyone getting into their various cars and driving off.

Wow. Everyone seemed to have cars around here.

I walked down the street a bit before I could see a taxi going to the bus station.

~~~~~
"Here is your food dear." My aunt served me some of her delicious food.
"Thank you." I said to her.
"Why didn't I get that much portion?" My brother Bryan whined.
"Because you're not the one who got the job. Dufus." Bailey said to him.
"Yeah whatever." Bryan replied.
"So how was it in general?" My aunt asked me.
"Interesting. Met a lot of different people with different characters. It was interesting." I said while I munched on my food
"Did you have a good first day?" Bailey asked me.
"Yeah. Yeah I did. Although at first it was really weird but later on, it got easier. I'm sure Tomorrow will be even better than today." I said to her and she nodded.
"So... how's your coworkers like?" My aunt asked me.
"I don't know yet. I'm still figuring them out. But atleast I think I made one friend there." I told her and she smiled.
"I'm happy to hear that." She replied.
~~
After dinner that night, I went straight to bed to sleep.
I don't know why my mind suddenly kept going back to the handsome guy from before.
I don't know why I'm so curious about him.
He probably doesn't even know I exist.
