Liam's POV
I walked cautiously to the mansion, taking a deep sigh. I opened the door, revealing that my mom and dad were already sitting, and their curiosity increased as soon as they saw me.
"What's going on Liam? What does he have to say?" My mom asked as soon as I sat down.
Of course, I know why I'm here; he already told me this meeting is to finalize his word; he wants to show me that he is still in charge here.
"I guess he knows why he is here," Dad said after a few minutes of silence. The mansion looked the same as it always did.
"You are all here," Grandfather said, walking close to us. We all stood up as he sat in his usual chair.
"Have your seats, and let's get straight to the point," he said, looking straight ahead.
"How's the company Liam?" He asked, turning to stare at me; a deep frown was all over his face.
"The company is okay; everything is running smoothly," I replied similarly.
My parents remained quiet as they stared at his still colleagues.
The company was passed down to me because my dad is a doctor, and as an only child, it was very hard for my grandfather to run the company all by himself.
Dad had to get married in his early twenties so he could have me as a support for my grandfather and become his successor.
The assignment has been going smoothly, and I don't see it as a burden because I fell in love with business. So, the whole thing became even easier for me without any pressure from my parents or grandfather.
"That's good; I'm glad everything is going well; as for the announcement ...?" He said, looking into everyone's faces.
"Liam is getting married." He said casually.
My mom's body stiffened, and for the next few seconds, everywhere fell into a deafening silence; my mom looked more shocked.
"Who's getting married?" Mom asked after recovering from the shock. She was not pleased with this news.
"That's a good thing. Who's your bride, Liam, and when are you going to? Take her home? Dad asked with a smile.
" Her name is Aurora Gold, and she will be here soon enough, but her grandfather is now sick. Once she is settled, she will be here," Grandfather said.
The frown on my mother's face deepened as she stared at her grandfather with confusion.
" There's something I don't understand here, father-in-law. You seem to know more about his wife-to-be than he does. Why is that? And this marriage seems sudden?"
"I mean, I'm his mother, and I don't even know he has a woman in his life, " she said.
" That's because I don't even know who I'm getting married to; I don't know what she looks like or who her parents are?" I said in frustration.
Does that mean it's an arranged marriage?" My mom asked with her eyes widened.
"That is what I want. Liam isn't growing any younger, and in addition to that, I can't let him get married to any random girl."
" This girl he is to get married to, her grandfather, is a very close friend of mine, and I already promised to get the both of them married, so he has to comply," he said.
" But he can't just get married to a random lady. He should at least marry a woman he loves and not some woman he doesn't even know."
"Don't you all think that is unfair?" She asked, glancing at everyone.
"That's all I have to say here, and my decision is final. If you have another opinion, you can keep it to yourself," Gramps said, getting up.
"Meet me in my studies, Liam," he said before walking away.
"Are you going to watch him do that? Liam is your only son, and don't forget marriage is something that happens forever," Mom said, turning to face Dad.
A sigh escaped his lips as one of his hands ruffled his hair. For the first time, I wish he would have a solution to this, but I won't put my hopes high, knowing how my grandfather is.
"What exactly do you want me to do, Martha? You know how my father is. I wouldn't want my son to get on his bad side," my dad said.
"I will be upstairs, Mom," I said, walking away.
" Why are you quiet? You should act and not think we are talking about our son here. He is the only one we have."
My grandfather might have made his decision, but I'm the one getting married to a strange woman.
If I don't abide by his rules, he might do things I don't expect. He might forget that I'm his only direct descendant and pass the company over to his brother's son, making everything I've been working for futile.
But then, this is marriage; I have a woman I want to spend eternity with, and a girl popped out of nowhere.
I won't just sit and open my arms for a stranger to disrupt the future I have planned for myself.
I'm going to make this so-called marriage a living hell for her, and I will make her regret ever knowing me in the first place; she will be forced to file for a divorce all by herself, and I will make sure of that.
"I'm sure you have considered the marriage? He suddenly said as soon as I got seated."
"I have plans for this family, and you, Liam Stone, are the only key to achieving these plans. You have to cooperate with me because it would do us a lot of good," he said,
"You see me as a tool, grandfather. Is that what I am to you?"
"You mean more than that, Liam. It seems like I'm using you now, but you will be glad I did in the future."
" All these are just things you must endure now, so you...."
