Chapter 48: The Battle Ends, Entering the Finals
"Aerodactyl, huh?" Ron looked at the prehistoric ruler of the skies soaring above. He withdrew Charizard and sent out his own Aerodactyl.
One big, one small—the larger one was Ron's, the smaller one belonged to Kuma.
Ron smirked. "Both are Aerodactyls. Let's see which is stronger!"
---
The crowd erupted with excitement.
"What an incredible match! Two ancient rulers of the sky are about to clash! A battle between kings will unfold before our eyes! A little trivia for our audience—the fossil Pokémon in Granite Valley were discovered by none other than Ron himself! The League has since declared it a protected area for fossil Pokémon, and only trainers with special permission can enter to capture them! But enough about that—let's get back to the battle!"
---
"Aerodactyl, Take Down!" Kuma commanded.
"Aerodactyl, Ice Fang!" Ron countered.
The two ancient predators collided midair.
Ron's Aerodactyl took the hit head-on, then clamped its fangs—frozen with chilling energy—onto Kuma's Aerodactyl's wing!
Four times weakness. Super effective.
Kuma clenched his fists. "Damn it! Roar!"
A deafening roar echoed across the battlefield!
Ron's Aerodactyl was forcibly switched out, returning to its Poké Ball.
Then—a new Pokémon emerged.
Beedrill.
Ron felt uneasy.
"This is bad."
Kuma saw his opportunity. "No mercy—Giga Impact!"
Ron clenched his teeth. "Beedrill, Focus Energy—then Twin Needle!"
---
A desperate struggle.
Kuma's Aerodactyl charged at full force.
Ron's Beedrill readied itself, but—there was no escape.
A powerful Giga Impact struck Beedrill, sending it flying back, unconscious.
Beedrill landed at Ron's feet, knocked out cold.
---
Ron silently recalled Beedrill, gripping the Poké Ball tightly.
"Thank you for understanding, my friend."
"Don't worry… We'll get stronger. This loss means nothing—we'll win next time."
Ron's heart ached.
His first Pokémon—his very first capture—was being called a weak link by the spectators.
Despite knowing he made the correct decision, it still hurt.
"I'm not strong enough."
For the finals, he decided—
Beedrill would fight in the last match.
He would prove to the world that Beedrill was not just an extra Pokémon—Beedrill was his ace!
---
"Go, Mewtwo."
Ron's cold, sharp tone startled the audience.
Mewtwo sensed Ron's emotions—its gaze sharpened.
A terrifying pressure filled the stadium.
Even Kuma's Aerodactyl instinctively shuddered.
---
"In the games, Pressure is a meh ability—it just makes moves consume more PP. But here, in reality, it's an entirely different monster."
"It forces hesitation. It forces fear."
"And sometimes—that hesitation is fatal."
---
"Don't be afraid, Aerodactyl! Take Down!" Kuma shouted, trying to snap his Pokémon out of it.
Aerodactyl roared, charging forward.
Mewtwo didn't move.
Then—it raised a single hand.
Aerodactyl froze in midair.
"What?! Impossible!" Kuma gasped.
The audience fell silent.
---
"Mewtwo's sheer dominance is overwhelming! Kuma's Aerodactyl is completely helpless!! Just how powerful is this legendary Pokémon?!"
---
"End it."
Mewtwo nodded—then threw Aerodactyl down onto the battlefield with brutal force.
Aerodactyl didn't get up.
---
"TOO STRONG! TOO STRONG! RON'S MEWTWO IS A MONSTER!!!"
Kuma is down to his last Pokémon! What will he send out next?!
---
"Come back, Aerodactyl." Kuma's tone was grim.
"Psychic-types, huh? I've got the perfect counter."
"Go, Tyranitar!"
A massive Tyranitar appeared, stomping onto the field.
Immediately—a raging sandstorm kicked up.
Ron smirked.
"Naïve. Do you really think Dark-types can stop Mewtwo?"
"Mewtwo, Aura Sphere."
Mewtwo gathered energy into its hands—a shining ball of fighting energy materialized.
Then—it launched the sphere forward.
Tyranitar's body shuddered violently.
Four times weakness. Super effective.
Tyranitar was sent flying, crashing into the stadium wall.
It struggled to get up.
"One hit... And it's almost done for..." Kuma's eyes widened in disbelief.
"What kind of monster is this?!"
Ron covered his face from the raging sandstorm, his voice muffled—
"Mewtwo, finish it."
Mewtwo raised a single finger—
A small, flickering Aura Sphere appeared—barely the size of a marble.
Then—it fired.
The tiny projectile hit Tyranitar right between the eyes.
And then—it collapsed.
---
"TYRANITAR IS UNABLE TO BATTLE! THE WINNER IS RON FROM PALLET TOWN!!!"
---
"WE HAVE OUR FINALIST!!!"
"A round of applause for our winner—Ron!!!"
The crowd erupted in cheers.
Kuma recalled Tyranitar, sighing in defeat.
He approached Ron, extending a hand.
"That Mewtwo is insane. I lost fair and square."
Ron shook his hand.
"Sorry. I wasn't in a great mood."
Kuma laughed, slapping Ron's shoulder.
"Don't be so dramatic. If you held back, I'd actually be pissed. Losing is fine—I just don't want to lose to someone who isn't giving it their all. So quit sulking—get out there and bring home the championship for both of us!"
---
"I will!" Ron declared.
