Chapter 49: The Finals – Ron vs. Harrison
After handing over his Pokémon for healing, Ron sat in the stands, ready to observe the upcoming match.
Harrison, like Lance, had striking red hair, but his was buzzed short, giving him a sharp and disciplined appearance. His muscular build stretched his T-shirt to its limits, something that made Ron a little envious.
Perhaps motivated by Mewtwo's earlier performance, Harrison opened the match with his Dragonite—and singlehandedly took down all six of his opponent's Pokémon.
By the end, Dragonite was exhausted but still standing, barely holding onto a sliver of health.
Ron rubbed his chin, analyzing Beedrill's odds.
After Mega Evolution, the win rate was around 60%.
But his job was to push that 60% to 100%.
Beedrill would prove itself here.
---
After lunch, discussions about the final showdown filled the air.
Would Ron or Harrison claim victory?
Ron, however, wasn't interested in the debates.
Instead, he sat on the sofa in his room, resting for the final battle.
---
"Using Beedrill against Dragonite seems risky."
Lillie's voice drifted from behind.
---
"…How did you know?"
Ron didn't turn around.
---
"I've traveled with you long enough. I know how you think."
Lillie's tone was calm but firm.
"…Are you confident?"
---
"…60%."
---
"Then do your best."
---
"…I will."
---
There was nothing more to say.
It was their silent understanding.
Ron closed his eyes—resting before the biggest battle of his life.
---
Nightfall – The Finals Begin
After dinner, the final match of the Indigo League commenced.
The flames of Moltres' torch burned brightly.
The stadium lights illuminated the battlefield, turning night into day.
The autumn air was crisp, but the crowd's roaring excitement drowned out the cold.
As the announcer hyped up the event, Ron and Harrison stepped onto the grand stage.
They met in the center of the battlefield, shaking hands.
---
"I've been waiting for this, Ron."
Harrison's eyes burned with determination.
"Let's see who's stronger—your Mewtwo, or my Dragonite!"
---
Ron smirked.
"You'll be disappointed. Your opponent isn't Mewtwo. But I'll still win."
---
Harrison chuckled.
"Oh? I look forward to forcing Mewtwo out."
They separated—heading to their respective sides.
---
The final bell rang.
Both trainers threw their first Poké Balls.
Nidoking vs. Dragonair.
---
"Dragon-type, huh? Nidoking, Ice Beam!"
---
"Dragonair, Surf—counter it!"
---
Dragonair summoned a towering wave, charging forward.
Nidoking's Ice Beam froze the incoming water solid—then shattered it into pieces.
But as the ice shards rained down, Nidoking lunged forward, its horn flashing.
---
HORN DRILL!
The one-hit KO attack landed clean, sending Dragonair soaring backward.
Dragonair crashed to the ground—knocked out instantly.
---
Harrison recalled Dragonair, frowning.
"Horn Drill, huh? I got careless. I didn't expect Nidoking to be this fast."
---
He tossed his next Poké Ball.
"Go, Gyarados!"
A massive Gyarados emerged, towering over the battlefield.
Ron sighed.
"Another Flying-type? He really is trying to be the next Lance."
---
"Thunderbolt!"
"Hydro Pump!"
---
Gyarados tanked the Thunderbolt head-on, firing a high-pressure blast of water.
Nidoking barely had time to react—
The Hydro Pump slammed into its chest, blasting it across the arena.
---
Nidoking rolled several times before skidding to a stop.
Ron's expression tightened.
"Even with a quadruple weakness to Electric, this Gyarados only lost a third of its health?"
---
Ron exhaled slowly.
"Harrison trained it purely for endurance."
"Gyarados' typing makes it weak to Electric... But weaknesses don't matter if you can survive the hit."
"This isn't just about numbers. This is real battle experience."
---
"Return, Nidoking."
Ron recalled his Pokémon.
---
"Charizard, you're up."
---
"Still a disadvantage!"
Harrison smirked.
"Gyarados, Hydro Pump!"
---
"But too slow! Charizard, Dragon Claw!"
---
Gyarados fired its Hydro Pump, but Charizard was already airborne.
Weaving through the attack, Charizard twisted midair and slashed upward—
Dragon Claw—uppercut!
Gyarados' jaw snapped shut, cutting off its next attack.
---
Harrison clenched his fists.
"Gyarados, Aqua Tail—send it flying!"
---
"Too slow—again! Charizard, Dragon Claw—relentless assault!"
Charizard dodged Gyarados' tail swipe,
then unleashed a rapid flurry of slashes—
claw after claw tearing into Gyarados' massive body.
---
Harrison gritted his teeth.
"Gyarados, Waterfall—push it away!"
---
"Too late! Charizard, finish it—one final Dragon Claw!"
---
Gyarados tried to summon a powerful wave—
but Charizard was already above it.
With one last powerful slash, Charizard drove Gyarados into the ground.
---
"Endurance means nothing if you can't move."
Ron's voice was cold.
---
Harrison exhaled sharply.
"Then let's see who's faster."
---
"Go, Pidgeot!"
A massive Pidgeot took to the sky.
Ron chuckled.
"Another Flying-type? He really is next in line for the Flying-type Elite Four."
Pidgeot's Pokédex entry claimed it could fly at Mach 2.
Ron rolled his eyes.
"Who wrote these entries? That's literally supersonic speed."
---
Still—he wouldn't underestimate it.
"Charizard, Dragon Claw!"
"Pidgeot, show them real speed—Aerial Ace!"
---
Pidgeot shot into the sky like a bullet.
Then—it vanished.
A split second later—a blur slammed into Charizard.
---
Ron's eyes narrowed.
"That speed is no joke."
---
"Charizard, Fire Blast—cover the sky!"
"Pidgeot, Sky Attack!"
---
Pidgeot ascended rapidly, charging energy.
Charizard unleashed a blazing inferno, lighting up the night sky.
---
Then—Pidgeot dove.
A shining comet streaked toward Charizard.
---
"Charizard, defend with Dragon Claw—counterattack!"
---
The two forces collided.
Charizard's Dragon Claw met Pidgeot's Sky Attack head-on.
---
Both Pokémon tumbled apart.
Charizard clutched its shoulder, momentarily unable to move.
Pidgeot skidded across the battlefield, its wings twitching.
Then—it collapsed.
---
"PIDGEOT IS UNABLE TO BATTLE!"
---
Ron exhaled.
"This is just the beginning."
He glanced at Harrison.
Harrison smiled confidently.
"Let's see how you handle my next Pokémon."
