Chapter 82 Alph Ruins, The Space of Unown
"Alright, even if you both have healing abilities, you're going too far," Ron said.
Seeing Mewtwo retract its spoon, Celebi flew back onto Ron's shoulder. Ron then asked, "Mewtwo, how's your training going with that one?"
"It's going fine for now. I've started to grasp the essence of destruction," Mewtwo replied via telepathy. "But there's still a big gap compared to that senior."
Ron nodded and said, "Good. Keep training with that Mewtwo. You won't participate in this year's Silver Conference. But next year, in Hoenn, there will be a tough battle waiting. I hope you'll have mastered your abilities by then."
Mewtwo nodded in agreement. After a brief pause, Ron added, "Also, when you're free, just train at the ranch. It's good for Aerodactyl and the others to witness a Legendary Pokémon's strength, so they'll know what to aim for."
"I understand, Dad," Mewtwo responded, then vanished using Teleport.
"Alright, problem solved. Let's take a rest first; we'll head out tomorrow," Ron teased, poking Celebi's cheek.
Celebi brushed Ron's finger aside impatiently, chirping softly.
"Hmm, I'm just ten thousand popularity points short now. Once I activate that cheat, Celebi, do you want to participate in the Silver Conference?" Ron asked.
Celebi nodded, chirping a few times, indicating it could participate, but only if it was the final act.
Ron agreed, and then began thinking about which Pokémon to bring along. After careful consideration, aside from Celebi and Cosmoem, he decided on Greninja, Tyranitar, Mienfoo, and Wobbuffet.
In truth, Ron had always been frustrated by the six-Pokémon carry limit. He even petitioned the League to remove this restriction, but they rejected it outright, stating simply: "Only League personnel on official missions are permitted to bypass the six-Pokémon limit."
The system did offer a solution, but it charged ten thousand diamonds per Pokémon slot, practically daylight robbery. However, now that he had the funds, Ron decided it was time to open a few additional slots. After all, Celebi and Cosmoem were essentially occupying two slots—one didn't require his training at all, and the other barely even moved, let alone trained.
After some hesitation, he chose to carry additional Pokémon, since some hadn't reached the level of understanding Origin Energy like Mewtwo and Charizard had.
"Beedrill, Chansey, Gengar, Gyarados, Dragonite, Pheromosa, Sylveon… Nidoking's still relaxing, so I won't take him now. Aerodactyl has begun grasping Origin Energy, so I'll leave him too. Great, another seventy million gone," Ron muttered helplessly as he spent money unlocking additional slots.
Afterward, Ron waited for Ruby and Rosa. Once they finished choosing their Pokémon, Ron planned to visit the Alph Ruins. He remembered clearly that the Pokédex task required Unown, and the only place Ron knew Unown could be found was the Alph Ruins.
Early the next morning, Ron's group arrived at the Alph Ruins by plane. According to research, the Alph Ruins had been preserved from as far back as 1500 years ago, making them quite remarkable structures.
After obtaining permission from the researchers, Ron and his friends entered the ancient building.
"Ron, why are we here? There aren't any Pokémon around," Rosa asked, playing with her newly caught Misdreavus.
"Who said there aren't Pokémon here? I'll show you some really peculiar Pokémon," Ron replied.
Walking deeper into the ruins, Ron stopped and said, "This should be far enough. Celebi, can you wake them up?"
Celebi nodded, flying upward and calling out clearly. Under the shocked gazes of Ruby and Rosa, the inscriptions on the walls began floating out one by one, forming countless Unown.
"That's strange. I've touched these inscriptions before, and there wasn't any sign of life. How did so many Unown suddenly appear now?" Ruby exclaimed in surprise.
"That's why Pokémon still have many unsolved mysteries waiting to be discovered," Ron said as he recorded their data with his Pokédex, preparing to catch a few Unown.
Celebi quickly stopped Ron, anxiously chirping something at him.
Hearing Celebi, Ron put away his Pokéballs and asked, "Can these Unown bring us over there?"
Celebi nodded and called out to the Unown. Immediately, the Unown surrounded Ron, Ruby, and Rosa, rapidly spinning around them. Feeling dizzy, the trio suddenly found themselves transported into an unfamiliar, peculiar space.
Trees were withered, riverbeds dry, the earth cracked, and the sky dull—a scene of absolute desolation. Saddened, Celebi sat on Ron's shoulder, chirping softly.
"The Legendary Pokémon here has died," Celebi said sadly.
"Ron, what is this place?!" Ruby and Rosa asked simultaneously, unable to hide their shock.
"A Legendary Pokémon has died here," Ron explained sorrowfully.
Ruby and Rosa exchanged glances, silently contemplating. No one had ever considered that even Legendary Pokémon could die. How could something so powerful die? From old age, or was it killed? No one could unravel this mystery.
Celebi let out another mournful cry and flew in a certain direction. Ron and the others quickly followed.
As they moved forward, they saw nothing but barren, lifeless land. Ron picked up a stone from the ground; it turned into yellow sand and trickled through his fingers, showing just how long this place had been abandoned.
Following Celebi, they soon reached a withered forest. Among the piles of rotting leaves lay more than a dozen Pokémon eggs.
Ron knelt down and gently picked up one egg, sensing it carefully before shaking his head sadly. "It's too late—this one has died. There's no life left."
Ruby and Rosa sighed simultaneously, deeply moved by the fragility of life.
Just then, Celebi suddenly chirped excitedly, using psychic energy to levitate two Pokémon eggs. Ron immediately recognized the red and blue triangular patterns—undoubtedly Togepi eggs.
Ron took the two eggs carefully, sensing their faint signs of life, and quietly contacted the system: "System, can these two eggs still be saved?"
"Confirmed. They can," the system replied.
"You two little ones sure are lucky," Ron smiled warmly.
Ron's smile infected Ruby and Rosa, and they exchanged happy glances. Indeed, these little ones were truly lucky. According to the system, the two eggs would have completely died within a day if Ron hadn't arrived in time.
Fortunately, Ron had Celebi, a Legendary Pokémon capable of awakening the Unown with its Origin Energy, allowing them to enter this space and rescue the eggs.
If this wasn't luck, then what was?
After spending twenty thousand popularity points to save the two little ones, Ron sighed. He had almost reached his goal earlier, but now he was twenty thousand points behind again. He wondered if he'd manage to gather enough before the Silver Conference.
However, looking down at the gradually recovering eggs in his arms, Ron felt those twenty thousand points had been well spent!
