Chapter 9

If Oliver's horrendous coffee attempt taught him anything, it was that he needed a better plan.

Unfortunately, his brain wasn't great at making good decisions.

Which is how I ended up standing in the middle of the school hallway, staring in horror at what he had just done.

---

Earlier That Day…

Lena plopped beside me at lunch, already grinning. "So… did you hear?"

I blinked. "Hear what?"

Daniel sighed. "Oliver's planning something."

A chill ran down my spine. "...What kind of something?"

Lena smirked. "No clue. But he looked insanely proud of himself."

Daniel shook his head. "Which means it's probably going to be a disaster."

I groaned. "Great. Can't wait."

---

The Disaster Begins…

It started with music.

I was walking to my next class when suddenly—

BLAST.

A love song blared through the school intercom.

Confused students paused in the halls. Teachers poked their heads out of classrooms.

And then—the confetti fell.

I gasped, looking up. Tiny red and pink paper hearts rained from the ceiling.

Someone screamed.

Another kid shouted, "WE'RE UNDER ATTACK!"

And then—Oliver appeared.

Standing at the end of the hallway. Holding a bouquet. Looking way too smug.

"Oh no," I whispered.

"Oh yes," Lena whispered back, cackling.

Before I could run, Oliver dramatically walked toward me.

Every single student stopped and watched.

I wanted to melt into the floor.

"Amelia," Oliver said, stopping in front of me.

The love song crescendoed.

I stared at him in pure horror.

Daniel groaned. "Bro. What are you doing?"

Oliver smiled way too confidently. "I am…" He paused for effect. "Making up for my coffee disaster."

The hallway went silent.

Then someone whispered.

"…Is this a proposal?"

"Bro, she's not even his girlfriend yet."

"I dunno, man, this is kinda romantic."

I wanted to scream.

Oliver grinned and held out the bouquet.

"Amelia," he said dramatically, "I may not be good at coffee, but I will always be good at liking you."

Someone in the crowd gasped.

Lena was dying.

Daniel facepalmed. "This is so painful to watch."

I just stood there, stunned.

Oliver grinned like an idiot. "So, uh… do you like it?"

I slowly took the bouquet. "…You just made the entire school think we're dating."

He blinked. "Oh. …Oh."

A random student whistled. "Sooooo, are you two together or what?"

I panicked.

Oliver panicked harder.

Then the fire alarm went off.

Someone had accidentally triggered it with all the falling confetti.

Suddenly, students were screaming and running, teachers were yelling, and in the middle of it all—

Oliver looked at me, eyes wide. "So, uh… should we run?"

I grabbed his hand. "RUN."

---

Later That Night…

I flopped onto my bed, still processing the disaster.

Whiskers was waiting on my windowsill, smirking. "So. That happened."

I groaned. "Don't start."

He purred. "You liked it."

I threw a pillow at him.

He dodged.

I was so doomed.
