It was a rare day off for both Lee and Gen, so they decided to invite Wang Yan for dinner at their new home.
Gen stretched her arms. "Hosting dinner for lovely mother-in-law, huh? Feels like a real married couple thing to do."
Lee rolled her eyes. "Don't make it sound like we aren't actually married."
Gen smirked. "Are we?"
Lee sighed. "Just cook."
Gen laughed and walked into the kitchen.
Perfect Dinner Preparation
Gen moved around the kitchen with ease, chopping, stirring, and tasting. The aroma of spices filled the air as she prepared a perfect meal.
Lee sat at the counter, watching. "You're fast."
Gen winked. "I'm a professional, babe."
Lee shook her head but didn't say anything.
Wang Yan's Arrival
When the doorbell rang, Gen wiped her hands and walked over to open it.
Wang Yan stepped inside, glancing around with a sharp gaze. "Not bad."
Gen grinned. "Only the best for my wife."
Lee, setting the table, called out, "Don't start."
Wang sat on the couch, crossing her legs. "So, how's married life?"
Gen sat beside her, smirking. "Oh, it's amazing. Lee wakes up every day, looks at me, and falls more in love."
Lee walked in, unimpressed. "That never happened."
Wang smirked. "I see you're still the same."
Gen shrugged. "Your daughter loves it."
Lee placed tea on the table. "Mom, why are you here so early?"
Wang sipped the tea. "I wanted to see how you two are settling in. And, of course, check on the progress."
Lee blinked. "Progress?"
Wang raised an eyebrow. "Don't act innocent."
Gen leaned forward. "You mean the baby talk?"
Wang nodded. "Yes. Have you two thought about it?"
Lee nearly choked on her tea. "Mom!"
Gen chuckled. "Relax, babe. She's just curious."
Wang gave Gen a sharp look. "I hope you're not avoiding it."
Gen put a hand on her heart. "Me? Never."
Lee sighed. "We just moved in. Can't we enjoy some peace before you start planning our entire future?"
Wang sipped her tea calmly. "Peace is temporary. A family is forever."
Gen smiled. "Deep words, Mother-in-law."
Lee shook her head. "We're not rushing into anything."
Wang sighed. "I expected this from you." She turned to Gen. "What about you?"
Gen smirked. "Oh, I'm very excited about our future."
Lee gave her a suspicious look. "That sounded fake."
Gen laughed. "You wound me, darling."
Wang watched them carefully. "Fine. Take your time. But don't think you can escape forever."
Lee sighed in relief. "Thank you."
Gen leaned closer to Wang. "Does this mean you'll let me spoil your daughter a little longer?"
Wang smirked. "Do what you want. Just don't make a mess of things."
Lee muttered, "Too late for that."
Gen laughed, and even Wang seemed slightly amused.
Dinner and Goodbye
After cleaning up, they finally sat down to eat.
Wang took a bite and nodded. "Not bad."
Gen grinned. "See, sweetheart? I impressed your mother."
Lee rolled her eyes but didn't argue.
After dinner, Wang stood up. "I'll visit again soon. And next time, I expect more progress."
Lee groaned. "Mom—"
Wang waved a hand. "No excuses." Then, she turned to Gen. "Take care of her."
Gen saluted. "Always."
As soon as the door closed, Lee sighed. "That was exhausting."
Gen threw an arm around her shoulder. "Come on, darling. It wasn't that bad."
Lee side-eyed her. "You enjoyed it."
Gen smirked. "Of course."
Lee sighed. "I really hate you sometimes."
Gen kissed her cheek. "Nah. You love me."
Lee shoved her away, but her ears were red.
