Chaoter 39: A Bold Request

After Wang Yan left, the apartment felt quieter than ever. Lee slumped onto the couch, rubbing her temples.

Gen plopped down beside her, grinning. "So, how do you feel?"

Lee sighed. "Like I just survived an interrogation."

Gen laughed. "Your mom is tough. But she likes me, you know?"

Lee shot her a look. "She tolerates you."

Gen smirked. "That's the first step to love."

Lee shook her head and stood up. "Let's clean up."

Cleaning Up

In the kitchen, they worked side by side, stacking dishes and wiping down the counters.

Gen washed while Lee dried. The silence between them was surprisingly comfortable.

"You're actually helping," Lee noted.

Gen gasped, pretending to be offended. "Babe! I always help!"

Lee raised an eyebrow.

Gen coughed. "Okay, maybe not always, but I do sometimes."

Lee smirked. "That's what I thought."

They finished up quickly, and Gen stretched. "Alright! Now that our house is sparkling again, what's next?"

Lee glanced at the clock. "Sleep."

Gen made a dramatic sigh. "So boring."

Lee ignored her and walked toward the bedroom.

A Bold Request

Gen flopped onto the couch, staring at the ceiling. The apartment was peaceful, but she couldn't shake the discomfort.

She adjusted her pillow. Nope. Still uncomfortable.

From the bedroom, she saw Lee already curled up in bed.

Gen smirked. So cute.

But her smirk faded as she shifted again. Why am I suffering here when there's a perfectly good bed in that room?

Finally, she made up her mind.

Getting up, she tiptoed toward the bedroom, carefully pushing the door open.

Lee stirred slightly but didn't wake up.

Gen hesitated, then knelt beside the bed, resting her chin on the edge of the mattress. "Babe…?"

Lee let out a sleepy hum but didn't open her eyes.

Gen whispered, "Can I sleep here tonight?"

Lee barely opened her eyes. "…Why?"

"The couch sucks," Gen said honestly. "And… I just want to be next to you."

Lee frowned slightly but didn't respond right away. She was still half-asleep, processing Gen's words.

After a long pause, Lee finally sighed and shifted to the side.

"Fine."

Gen blinked. "Really?"

Lee lazily pointed at the empty space beside her. "Just… don't do anything weird."

Gen grinned, quickly sliding under the blanket before Lee could change her mind. "Of course, darling."

Lee gave her a tired glare but was too sleepy to argue.

As Gen settled in, she turned to look at Lee, who had already closed her eyes.

A rare warmth filled her chest. This wasn't about teasing or flirting anymore. It just felt right.

With a small smile, she whispered, "Good night, wifey."

Lee muttered something incoherent but didn't protest.

Gen chuckled softly before closing her eyes.

Tonight, for the first time, she slept beside Lee—not as a joke, not as part of her usual teasing, but simply because she wanted to be close to her.
