Chapter 49: A Secret and a Fall

A few days had passed since that night, and everything felt… different.

Not in a bad way. If anything, Gen enjoyed how much closer she and Lee had become. They still bickered, Lee still scolded her, and Gen still teased her endlessly—but now, there was an unspoken warmth between them.

Yet, something felt off.

Gen first noticed it while reaching for a plate in the kitchen. Usually, she'd float just slightly off the ground to grab something high up without thinking. But when she tried—nothing. Her feet stayed firmly on the ground.

She frowned but shook it off.

Then came the visions—or rather, the lack of them. Usually, glimpses of the future would pop into her mind randomly, sometimes helpful, sometimes annoying. But now, there was… nothing.

It was as if her powers had suddenly dulled.

At first, she ignored it. Maybe she was just tired. Maybe it was stress. But deep down, unease began to creep in.

She decided it was time to tell Lee the truth.

The Reveal and the Fall

That evening, Lee sat on the couch, flipping through her medical notes. Gen stood in front of her, arms crossed, looking oddly serious.

Lee glanced up. "What?"

Gen hesitated, then took a deep breath. "I need to tell you something."

Lee raised an eyebrow. "Okay?"

Gen pointed toward the window. "I can fly."

Lee blinked. "What?"

Gen grinned. "I said, I can fly. And I'll prove it."

Before Lee could stop her, Gen marched toward the balcony.

Lee's eyes widened. "Gen, wait—"

But Gen had already climbed onto the railing.

She took a deep breath. You've done this a hundred times, it's fine.

Then she jumped.

For a moment, she felt the familiar weightlessness, the rush of air against her skin. But then—

Nothing.

Instead of gliding smoothly, her body dropped.

Her heart pounded as she hit the ground with a hard thud. Luckily, the balcony wasn't too high—just the first floor—but the impact still sent pain shooting through her arm.

"GEN!"

Lee's panicked voice rang out as she rushed down the stairs.

Gen groaned, clutching her wrist. "Ow…"

Lee dropped to her knees beside her. "Are you insane?! What were you thinking?!"

Gen gave a weak laugh. "I swear, I could fly before."

Lee checked her arm, her hands shaking slightly. "You're lucky it's just a fracture."

Gen winced. "Well… that proves I wasn't lying, right?"

Lee glared. "Shut up."

Gen bit her lip, watching as Lee carefully helped her up. She wasn't just in pain—she was scared. Something was happening to her body.

And she had no idea why.
