When Fintan woke up again, he was still lying in the motel.
The local doctor was wrapping medicine nearby, and Stone had fallen asleep on his bed.
After slowly scanning the room, Crysta approached with a bowl of chicken soup.
The icy coldness on her face had melted, and she looked at him with such tender eyes.
Seeing her like this, he had likely forgotten that she wasn't the one who had abandoned him in the middle of nowhere.
"Fintan, I didn't realize you were actually hurt. I made you some chicken soup. Will you forgive me?"
Fintan frowned, looking at the glistening broth in the bowl.
Crysta had never cooked for him before.
Just then, Levi, his arm in a cast, asked, "Crysta, your cooking is still as good as ever. Can I have another bowl?"
The hand holding the spoon trembled, nearly spilling soup on Fintan.
Crysta laughed freely, quickly steadying Levi. "Levi, you're still such a sweet talker."
Levi smiled affectionately. "It's because it's you, silly."
The mouthful of chicken soup Fintan had just swallowed suddenly made him nauseous.
He retched loudly, throwing up.
Crysta's attention was suddenly interrupted as Levi spoke up.
"Fintan, doesn't it taste good? This is Crysta's secret family recipe!"Crysta's face turned sour when she saw the mush I'd thrown up.
She strode forward, snatching the bowl of chicken soup from my hands so quickly I couldn't react.
In the tussle over the soup, it suddenly spilled all over me.
My body was already covered in barely healed wounds, and now scalding chicken soup poured over them.
The searing, bone-deep pain shot straight to my heart.
I trembled in agony, my body shaking like I was having a seizure.
Watching me quiver like this, Crysta raised her hand and smashed the soup bowl to pieces.
"Fintan, I go out of my way to make you chicken soup, and this is how you repay me? By being so disgusting?"
"What are you playing at now, shaking like that? The soup spilled, but you didn't even get splashed!"
Could she not see I was drenched in soup?
This soup wasn't even meant for me, it was just leftovers, but now she's acting like she made it specially for me out of the kindness of her heart.
The bitterness in my heart suddenly overflowed.
Seeing me still shaking, my teeth chattering, Crysta stepped forward and grabbed my hospital gown.
She glared at me fiercely: "Stop shaking! Are you deaf? Can't you understand what I'm saying?!"
I didn't want to shake, but I couldn't control it.
It hurt so much, just unbearably painful.
Exasperated, Crysta let go of me. Stone woke up then, disturbed by the noise.
He looked at me through bleary eyes, then bolted up in alarm to call for the doctor. The country doctor rushed over and was taken aback when he saw my frenzied state.
He then scolded Crysta.
"How are you taking care of your husband? Spilling chicken soup into his wound will cause infection and make it worse. He's shaking because he's in extreme pain now!"
Crysta stared at him blankly.
"Isn't he just faking it?"
