Chapter 3: A Prison Break Would Be Nice Right About Now

Titan Industries Detention Facility – Cell Block Omega

Kai Vance woke up to the sensation of cold metal restraints digging into his wrists.

Great.

He was strapped to an interrogation chair, surrounded by glowing holo-displays pulsing with streams of encrypted data. The air smelled sterile, like freshly polished steel and expensive mistakes.

A calm, synthetic voice filled the room.

"Subject: Kai Vance. Unregistered cyberwarfare specialist. Possesses unauthorized neural modifications. Pending analysis."

Kai groaned, shifting in his restraints. "You know, most people buy me dinner before strapping me to a chair."

A door hissed open.

Kai's stomach sank as Valkyrie stepped inside.

She was just as intimidating as before—tall, silver-eyed, exuding perfect discipline and zero tolerance for nonsense.

Kai forced a grin. "Missed me already?"

Valkyrie didn't react. "You are in possession of restricted data."

Kai feigned confusion. "What? You mean my extensive collection of cat videos? Yeah, people say it's priceless."

Valkyrie didn't even blink. "Titan Industries does not tolerate security breaches. Cooperate, and this will be painless."

Translation: Give us what's in your head, or we'll take it the hard way.

Kai leaned back as much as his restraints allowed. "You know, for an elite enforcer, you seem awfully interested in some nobody hacker."

"You're not a nobody." Her voice was too certain. Too absolute.

Kai's smirk faltered.

They know something.

Before he could respond, the room's holo-screens flickered.

The lights dimmed.

An alarm blared.

A voice crackled through the speakers.

"Yo, tin cans! Sorry to crash the party, but I'm taking this guy. Try to stop me if you want your security grid fried."

Kai's eyes widened.

No way.

That was the voice of a hacker. A very good one.

And judging by the pure chaos erupting outside, they were already inside Titan Industries' system.

Hackers, Guns, and Bad Decisions

Control Room – Titan Detention Center

Security personnel were scrambling.

Holo-displays glitched as an unauthorized signal hijacked the internal network.

"Who the hell is in our system?" one of the officers barked.

A grinning purple-haired woman popped up on every screen.

Nova.

She chewed gum as she typed at inhuman speed, her fingers flying across a holographic keyboard.

"Yo, security dweebs! Hope you don't mind, but I just rerouted all your access codes."

Titan officers started panicking as doors randomly unlocked and re-locked.

Nova leaned back, admiring her work.

"You guys charge people for Wi-Fi and think that's okay? Yeah, this is karma."

Behind her, masked rebels from the Ashen Veil were already moving. Explosions rocked the facility as their strike team breached the lower levels.

Nova smirked. "Okay, boys, go grab our guy."

Interrogation Chamber – 60 Seconds to Escape

Back in the chamber, Kai blinked. "So, uh… was this part of your plan?" he asked Valkyrie.

She frowned at the breach alarm, then at Kai.

She was weighing her options.

Kai grinned.

"Wanna guess how long before my new friends bust down that door?"

Valkyrie studied him for a long moment.

Then, without a word, she stepped forward—

—and unlocked his restraints.

Kai stared. "…Wait, what?"

Valkyrie grabbed his collar, yanked him forward, and whispered sharply.

"You have no idea what's inside your head. But I do."

Kai's heart pounded. "And?"

Valkyrie's grip tightened.

"Run."

The door burst open.

A group of masked Ashen Veil rebels stormed in, weapons raised.

Nova strolled in behind them, grinning. "Told you I'd get you out, dumbass."

Kai shook off his shock, rolling with the insanity.

"Took you long enough."

Nova flipped him off.

A guard groaned on the floor. Nova stepped on him casually. "C'mon, drama queen. Let's bounce."

Kai turned to Valkyrie.

She was still watching him.

He met her gaze.

Something unspoken passed between them.

Then, Kai ran.
