Chapter 4: Explosions, Cyberchases, and a Very Bad Day

Titan Industries Detention Facility – Rooftop Extraction Point

The facility was on fire.

Kai sprinted across the rooftop, dodging gunfire as sirens blared. The Ashen Veil's escape plan was very on-brand—which meant explosions everywhere and zero subtlety.

"Move your ass, dumbass!" Nova shouted, already sliding across the hood of an armored getaway vehicle.

"I'm trying not to die, thanks!" Kai yelled back.

A security drone swooped overhead, targeting lasers locking onto him.

Kai cursed, diving behind a shipping crate as the drone unleashed rapid-fire plasma bolts.

Great. Just great.

"Suppressing fire!" one of the rebels yelled. Gunfire erupted as the Ashen Veil squad lit up the sky, trying to take down the drone.

Nova popped out from behind cover, raised a cyberdeck, and with a few rapid keystrokes—

The drone seized up mid-air.

Then it turned and started firing at its own security team.

Nova smirked. "Hacked, hijacked, and gift-wrapped. You're welcome."

Kai let out a breath. "Remind me to never piss you off."

Nova winked. "Smart man."

The Chase Begins

The getaway vehicle roared to life as the rebels piled in.

Kai barely threw himself inside before Nova slammed on the gas. The vehicle skidded sideways, tires screeching as they tore down a burning highway.

"We are so dead," Kai muttered.

A holo-display flickered to life on the dashboard. A Titan enforcer's voice barked over the comms:

"Cease immediately, or you will be terminated."

Nova snorted. "Wow, they really need new pickup lines."

Behind them, a squad of Titan hoverbikes ignited their thrusters, closing in fast.

Kai gripped the seat. "They've got high-speed pursuit units. We are actually so dead."

Nova glanced at him, grinning.

"Hey, hacker boy—how good are you at multitasking?"

Kai blinked. "…Why?"

Nova jerked a thumb toward a holo-interface. "Because I need you to disable their tracking systems while I drive like a complete lunatic."

Kai sighed, cracking his knuckles. "Yeah, sure. Why not? It's not like I enjoy having an intact spine."

Nova floored it.

---

Cyberwarfare at 200 MPH

Kai's fingers flew across the hacking terminal, diving into Titan's encrypted network.

Firewalls flared to life, trying to lock him out.

"Nope, not today."

Kai broke through security measures one after another, rewiring tracking systems, scrambling enemy scanners—

Nova cackled as the Titan hoverbikes suddenly lost their radar locks and swerved in confusion.

"Oh, hell yeah! That's what I'm talking about!"

Kai leaned back, exhaling.

"I cannot believe that worked."

Nova smirked. "Stick with me, rookie. You'll get used to winning."

The Enforcer Makes Her Move

Just when Kai thought they had a shot at escaping—

A high-speed mech suit landed in front of them, crushing the pavement beneath its massive frame.

The windshield's HUD scanned the figure.

Titan Valkyrie-Class Warframe Detected.

Kai's stomach dropped. "…Oh, you've got to be kidding me."

The mech raised an arm, plasma cannons charging up.

Through the cockpit window, Valkyrie's silver eyes met his.

And she did not look happy.

Nova blinked. "Okay. So. New plan?"

Kai groaned.

"Survive."
