"Slash!"
Di Ping paid no mind to the mutated dog that had been sent flying. His body moved swiftly, like a fleeting shadow, instantly charging towards the four remaining mutated dogs. The long sword in his hand swung like the wind, emitting flashes of cold light, as silver sword waves cut through the air, creating sharp whistling sounds. In an instant, he unleashed several strikes that were so fast they couldn't be seen, and the four mutated dogs were encircled by fiery-red sword shadows.
"Poof, poof, poof."
The sound of blade slicing through flesh echoed, sending shivers down everyone's spine.
Di Ping, still running, appeared twenty meters away from where he had been standing, maintaining a standing posture. His hands gripped the hilt of the long sword, which hung diagonally to his right side. The red glow on the sword had dissipated, but white smoke still emanated from the blade. There wasn't a trace of blood on it.
Behind him, the four mutated dogs staggered, shaking uncontrollably. After a second, they tilted and collapsed to the ground. Deep gashes appeared on their bodies, and moments later, blood shot out like a fountain, quickly staining the ground red.
"Boom!"
The mutated dog that Di Ping had sent flying earlier now slammed into a car parked by the side of the road. The car's glass shattered instantly, and the dog collapsed, limp like a ragdoll. Blood poured from its nose and mouth, and its chest barely rose and fell in the final moments of life—it was clearly not going to survive.
"Uuuu..."
The wolf-like mutated dog, stunned for a moment, seemed to not expect such power from this human. In the blink of an eye, five of its companions had fallen, but fury quickly replaced its shock. The wolf-dog, known for its viciousness, never retreats. Seeing its pack decimated, it let out a furious howl, its eyes bloodshot and filled with wild savagery.
At this moment, Yue Lie and Liu Han, hiding in the supermarket, were utterly dumbfounded. They couldn't believe their eyes. Their minds had seemingly stopped working, and they stood there in shock, watching everything unfold.
"Come!"
Di Ping looked at the wolf-dog with a dismissive gaze, and provocatively flicked his sword.
"Uuuu!"
The wolf-dog, already enraged, became even more frantic. It raised its head and howled, its massive claws gouging deep grooves in the concrete ground. Like a charging rhinoceros, it surged toward Di Ping with overwhelming force.
"Ha ha, here it comes!"
Di Ping laughed loudly. This was exactly the reaction he had wanted. He had provoked the beast to ensure it wouldn't flee. Now that the wolf-dog was charging, everything was going according to plan. With a roar of excitement, he prepared to meet the beast head-on.
The long sword in his hand glowed red once more, and Di Ping crouched down, gathering strength from the ground. With a powerful burst of muscle, he shot forward like an arrow, directly meeting the oncoming mutated dog.
The mutated dog, resembling a charging bull, hurtled toward him. Before it even reached him, Di Ping could feel the wind rush toward his face. Just as they were about to collide, the mutated dog launched itself into the air, leaping over two meters, like a fierce tiger pouncing directly at Di Ping.
Its sharp claws slashed downward, aiming for Di Ping's head as if intending to crush it. The beast's fury was palpable, and only by shredding him to pieces could it assuage its rage.
"Slash!"
With a yell, Di Ping focused all his strength. His entire body moved in sync, a surge of power rising through him. His hand wielding the sword moved with preternatural speed, the sword arcing in the air like a bolt of red lightning, slashing directly at the mutated wolf-dog.
"Poof."
A crisp, cold sound rang out as the sword sliced through the flesh, the sound making one's scalp tingle with horror. It felt almost as if one's own skin was being slashed.
"Bang!"
The mutated dog and Di Ping passed each other in a flash. The dog's body hit the ground with a loud thud, but it didn't land on its feet. Instead, it split into two, its wound charred black with white smoke rising. Moments later, blood erupted from its body, and its entrails spilled out onto the ground.
Di Ping stood a few meters away from the corpse, calmly flicking his sword to shake off the remaining blood. He turned to look at the fallen beast with a serene expression, as though it had been someone else's work. But internally, a wave of pride surged through him.
This was immense progress. Only a few days ago, he had been running from mutated dogs, but now, six of them had fallen in less than a minute. The combination of power, speed, and skill had made killing them feel almost as easy as slaughtering chickens.
"Shit...shit..."
While Di Ping remained calm, Yue Lie and Liu Han were still in shock. Their eyes were wide with disbelief. Liu Han kept muttering curses under his breath, trying to shake off the terror that gripped him. They both had an odd feeling creeping into their minds—was this still Earth? Had they crossed over into another world?
Gina turned back and gave them a scornful glance, as though they were country bumpkins in the big city.
But when her eyes fell back on Di Ping, she couldn't help but admire him. He was so much stronger than the upperclassmen back at her academy, and it was hard to believe he was just a first-tier warrior. He was powerful, wild, and utterly mesmerizing.
Watching him stand confidently in the street, Gina's gaze softened. Her eyes shone with adoration, and it seemed as though a gentle mist clouded her vision. Her expression turned affectionate, as though she were about to melt with emotion.
Di Ping turned around slowly and, as he gazed at the fallen mutated dog corpses, a profound feeling welled up inside him. Only a short time ago, he had been running from such creatures, but now, six of them lay dead at his feet.
This was remarkable progress, and he was stunned at how much he had grown in such a short time.
He was content with his performance today, and the continuous practice and combat experience were clearly paying off. While he didn't consider himself perfect yet, he felt a deep sense of satisfaction in his improvement.
In his heart, he believed he would only get stronger, and that survival in this post-apocalyptic world was now within his grasp.
His emotions steadied, and he walked over to the mutated wolf-dog's body. With a quick flick of his sword, he cracked open its skull and began to extract the core. He swiftly retrieved a small, translucent orb, no bigger than a fingernail, and then moved on to the other dogs.
Gina, seeing this, quickly followed suit. She pulled a small knife from somewhere on her person and began assisting him in retrieving the cores.
"Old Lie, what do you think they're looking for?"
Liu Han, now somewhat recovered from the shock, couldn't suppress his curiosity. He glanced at Yue Lie, who, still stunned, was more focused on the bizarre scene unfolding than answering him.
"How would I know?"
Yue Lie replied absently, still lost in thought.
"Let's go take a look?"
Liu Han couldn't contain his curiosity and tried to drag Yue Lie toward Di Ping and Gina, eager to see what they were doing.
"Uh...you go ahead. I'm feeling a bit weak in the legs," Yue Lie protested, a sense of unease settling in his stomach.
"Don't be useless, what's there to be afraid of? Let's go see!" Liu Han persisted, pulling him along.
By the time they reached Di Ping's location, the two were done collecting the cores from all six mutated dogs. Gina handed the cores to Di Ping, who stored them in his bag after cleaning them with some water.
Liu Han, now irritated, shot Yue Lie a glare. It was clearly his fault for walking so slowly that he missed the chance to see what was going on.
Liu Han was about to ask more questions when the sight of the dog corpses stopped him cold. Though his curiosity was piqued, he quickly forced himself to suppress it.
Meanwhile, Yue Lie's attention remained on the mutated dog corpses, but his thoughts were far from focused. He couldn't help but wonder about the strange couple standing before him. How could they be so powerful? Killing these mutated dogs as if they were nothing more than vegetables? They seemed to emanate an air of mystery, making it impossible to figure out who they truly were.
Could they be from another world? Or were they some hidden martial arts experts?
His head spun with questions, making him feel disoriented. This was nothing like what he had expected when he first came to the city. He had always been the clever one in his circle of friends, but now, he felt entirely out of his depth.
He glanced at Di Ping again—standing tall and poised in the middle of the street, like an indomitable mountain. His earlier display of effortless power seemed more mythical than anything, and Yue Lie's heart raced as he realized that the man standing before him wasn't just an ordinary human.
