Rina pushed herself up from the ground, shaking off the ringing in her ears. Dust and debris clouded the air, but her focus stayed locked on Sybil, hovering above the wreckage like a damn goddess.
"Enough, Sybil," Rina said, leveling her rifle. "You don't know anything about power. You're playing with something that could destroy you and everyone else."
Sybil chuckled, floating lower, eyes gleaming with amusement. "Oh, Captain Hunter, you think I don't know? Power is meant to be controlled. Molded. Used." She flexed her fingers, and an invisible force yanked Rina's rifle from her grip, tossing it aside like a toy.
Briggs cursed through the comms. "She's stronger than before what the hell is in that serum?"
Rina clenched her jaw. She couldn't reveal her true strength. Not yet. Not in front of her team.
She took a step forward, hands raised, keeping Sybil engaged. "You could hurt innocent people. You already have. Five people are dead, Sybil. You wanna add more to that list?"
Sybil's smirk faltered for a second just a second before twisting back into defiance. "Sacrifices are necessary. Evolution demands it."
Rina narrowed her eyes. "That's not evolution. That's playing god."
Sybil tilted her head. "And yet… you're not stopping me, Captain. Why is that?"
Then a flick of her wrist.
The air rippled around Rina. A force slammed into her chest, sending her skidding backward, boots scraping against the pavement.
Damn it.
This was getting out of hand. She needed a plan fast.
