Kael woke up to a sharp pain that rooted itself deep in his chest. He had never had this feeling before and it certainly wasn't pleasant to have. It took a few seconds for the pain to go away but now his sleep had been interrupted and he hadn't gained any meaningful amount of Nullborne Matter.
The painful awakening resulted in an even bigger headache which slammed into him like a speeding train. He immediately recoiled back onto the bed and clutched his head for another few seconds. Finally, the pain went away.
He lay on his bed for a moment waiting to see if he'd receive a third serving of pain but fortunately, it never came.
Kael got up and walked out of his office, his combat suit never deformed so he was still dressed. He walked out of his vanguard and into the empty town. He knew there was a mass evacuation because he was there but seeing how empty the vibrant town was, was new to him.
Kael subconsciously walked to the Titan Spire where he saw someone standing guard at the door. It felt a little weird but he recognized the person. Getting closer, his suspicion was confirmed.
"Hey Veyra, what's going on, where's your brother and everyone else?" Kael asked with a bright smile. For him to remain inconspicuous, he didn't see anything happening.
Taking a few more steps towards the building, Kael kept up his nonchalant, innocent facade until he was just a few meters away from Vayra.
Suddenly, a gust of wind blew in her direction revealing what he saw to be nothing but a mirage. Just as he was going towards the Titan Spire's door, he sensed something.
His body moved quickly. His feet shifted and before he realized it, he had moved to the side as a black shadowy sword cleaved down towards his previous location. His eyes widened in shock as he saw Vayra, more precisely, a shadow carving of her but with two shadow swords for arms.
Kael was not prepared to battle anytime soon. He had just wasted all his accumulated Nullborne Matter and only gained a minute amount from his few hours of sleep, enough to phase through maybe three full powered hits from someone of his same power level. He was not prepared.
Kael took only a second to analyze the situation before bolting towards the group of buildings closest to him. He saw a shadow move rapidly across the ground before the shadow Vayra popped out with another swing of her sword arms.
Kael spun his body around shadow Vayra and her attack entirely but his body stopped abruptly. He only realized why when he saw a second slash that missed him by a few centimeters.
Kicking off the ground as hard as he could, Kael found himself in the air. His powers had kicked in slightly, he couldn't fully enter his extra dimensional state but could still use some of its effects as he created a platform within the air before pushing off it and into the town's buildings.
Vayra appeared at the exact location Kael had fallen to a few seconds later only to realize he wasn't there anymore. She turned into a pure shadow and started moving swiftly through the buildings looking for Kael.
Seeing what just happened from a nearby window, Kael made his move, his main goal was to return back to his ship unnoticed.
He ran towards the opposite wall before jumping and phasing through it, maintaining his power just long enough to phase through another building and end up inside.
'I can't keep this up, with how the situation is going, am going to have to escape this place for now until I can reunite with Oris and Dren.' Kael thought.
He was about to look through another window when his instincts kicked in again as he shifted his body to the side bearly fast enough to avoid a slash of energy that went through the entire building.
Appearing by his side, Vayra swung her sword towards him which he narrowly avoided only to be kicked in the stomach and throw the building's wall as he slammed into the wall of another nearby building.
Kael could bearly breath after the kick landed. His entire body felt sour as he had been sent flying through Gravitanium, one of the densest materials in the Galaxy.
Suddenly, his vision went black as a shadow sword stabbed through his head. Nullborne Manifestation's natural defense had kicked in and Kael could feel a heavy strain at the center of his being as he fell through the wall and onto the other side.
Rolling to the side, he managed to avoid getting impaled through the ground and jumped up slightly before phasing an arm through the ceiling to hang on for a while.
He scanned the inside of the building but couldn't quite see anything out of the ordinary. He then pulled himself through the ceiling and ended up on the roof where Vayra was waiting as she stabbed a sword through his leg to keep him grounded.
She lifted her other hand, ready to deliver a final strike when Kael suddenly shone a very weak shade of blue and fell through the roof ending up in the building once again.
Kael felt a splitting headache as he had expended all his Nullborne Matter. He tried to move but the hole in his leg made him very slow and his lack of Nullborne Matter decreased his speed drastically.
He managed to walk out of the door of the building where he was once again met with Vayra stabbed a sword through his arm to pin him to the door before stabbing him in the stomach. She then twisted the blade before ripping it out of his body.
Kael fell to the ground, blood gushing from his injured leg, arm and the huge hole in his stomach. He tried to move but was kicked in the head as he flew straight into a wall within the building he just escaped from.
Kael lost all the energy in his body as all he could do was look into the face of shadow Vayra who had a large, devilish smile on her face as she prepared to execute him.
