The black portal sucked Yami in before he could even curse.
For a moment, he thought he was hovering in nothingness.
Then—
THUD!
He crashed face-first onto something hard.
".Ow."
Rolling over from the ground, Yami realized that he wasn't in the forest anymore. Rather, he was standing on a cobblestone street, and there were people nearby—actual people.
Men and women in armor and robes walked past him, some with swords, others with magic staves. Some adventurers were negotiating rewards, while merchants were shouting about their wares.
It was a bustling fantasy town, straight out of an RPG.
Yami smiled. "Okay. Now this is more like it."
Then he noticed something else.
Everyone was staring at him.
Some were puzzled, others suspicious. A few whispered to one another.
Yami gazed down. His clothes were in tatters, stained with dried monster blood from the dungeon. His black gauntlet pulsed with unsettling energy, and his scythes were still attached on his back.
He was going to be a walking demon.
Before things started to get uncomfortable, a voice shouted—
"Oi! You there!"
Yami observed a stout man in armor approaching him. His breastplate had an engraved emblem—some kind of official mark.
"Where did the devil come from?!" the man roared. "You just appeared out of thin air!"
Yami massaged his head. "Uh. long story?"
The man scowled. "Fantastic. Another delinquent. If you're an adventurer, show your guild card."
".My what now?"
The man's eyelid flickered. "Don't tell me you're one of those idiots who came to town without registering?"
Before Yami could reply, another voice interrupted—
"Haha! Looks like we got a newbie!"
A young man with silver hair walked over, grinning. He wore a black cloak and had two daggers on his belt. A beastwoman with fox ears followed behind him, eyeing Yami curiously.
The man clapped Yami on the shoulder. "You must be new around here. No guild card, huh? Then your first stop should be—"
He gestured toward a large stone building nearby. A wooden sign above the entrance read:
"Adventurer's Guild."
Yami smiled even wider.
Now this… this was where things picked up.
