Chapter 30: Dark Demon's Exponential Explosion Story
This was clearly Robert's biggest concern at the moment.
If the credits for this class didn't count, he and Virt would be in serious debt.
"Seriously, why did it have to be this class?!"
Robert roared inwardly, his emotions running high.
...
But Dark was teaching for the first time, how would he know if the credits counted?
He thought for a moment and decided to try: "Very good, Broheim's question is very constructive. It seems everyone is quite concerned about this issue. How about we do an experiment?"
Robert: "What experiment?"
Dark suddenly said loudly: "Broheim, deduct five points!"
Robert's expression instantly changed!
He quickly picked up his House Card to check, and it really did deduct five points!
Dark asked, "Well, was there a deduction?"
Robert nodded with a grim face, "Yes, there was."
Dark then smiled slightly, "Broheim, add five points."
Although he didn't know the exact principle behind it, he clearly had the authority of the professors in this class, able to control the students' credits.
He, this substitute teacher, could be considered officially recognized.
And indeed, when the students realized that this classmate could actually deduct their points, those who were dissatisfied with him noticeably restrained themselves.
Dark said, "Since no one has any more questions, let's officially start the class. Please take out your exercise books and turn to page XX. Right, no one hasn't done their homework, right?"
Faced with his question, the Magic Academy students showed slight disdain, and some from the Knight Academy even opened their exercise books to show him.
Speaking of which, the last arithmetic class was last Thursday, which was a full five days ago.
Any normal student would have finished it by now, right?
Impossible, it's impossible, right?
Originally, according to Professor Lily's method, she would collect the exercise books before the end of this class, correct them, and then distribute them in the next class, along with assigning the new week's homework.
But Dark, thinking of dragging out the time, decided to go through the homework directly today.
Anyway, he was often the one correcting the first-year homework.
Finishing it today would also save the trouble of correcting them later!
But just as he was about to open the exercise book, he suddenly looked up and noticed that Robert's expression seemed a little off!
...
Robert was more than just "a little off," he almost wanted to cry!
Because he had genuinely forgotten to do his homework!
Of course, Virt beside him also hadn't written a single number!
But Virt's emotional control was stronger than Robert's, so he didn't show it as much.
Arithmetic homework was assigned on Thursday, because it was close to the weekend, many students would usually leave it to do together on the weekend.
But last weekend was the first opening day of Traveler's Street!
Virt and Robert had also spent a fortune to buy the latest model of Magic Chess, and from Friday afternoon onwards, they had been playing with the Magic Chess all weekend.
Lost in their playthings, how could they remember any homework?
And by Monday, which was last night, they had been racking their brains to borrow credits, making it even more impossible to do homework!
"Hey."
Robert suddenly felt a pain in his thigh, and subconsciously turned his head to look at Virt.
Virt retracted his hand and quickly winked: Pretend, pretend!
But how could they pretend anymore...
Dark originally didn't want to care he was genuinely too lazy to bother, but Robert's reaction was just too obvious, to the point that even the Noble Academy students across the aisle had noticed.
One student even looked at him with ill intent and slowly raised his hand!
If he still ignored it at this point, it would be truly unreasonable.
Dark said helplessly, "Powell, do you have something to say?"
Powell slowly stood up, pointed at Robert smugly and said, "Dear Dark, I saw a rat hiding his exercise book in his crotch."
Dark turned his gaze to Robert, then glanced at Virt beside him, and simply said, "Goddard, check Broheim's homework."
Virt lowered his head helplessly and reached out to take Robert's exercise book.
He had no choice!
Because he hadn't done it either!
At this point, he could only sacrifice the pawn to save the chariot!
After pretending to check it, Virt said helplessly, "Sorry, he really seems to have forgotten to do his homework."
Dark's face "darkened": "Very well, Broheim, do you remember how many points are deducted for not doing homework?"
Robert gritted his teeth.
Dark said expressionlessly, "Broheim, deduct ten points!"
Virt tightly gripped the corner of the exercise book.
A very ominous premonition suddenly arose in his heart!
...
Dark didn't delve too deeply into it, but instead copied the exercises onto the blackboard, explaining them one by one.
He would occasionally ask questions, and even use stories to explain some difficult problems, making them easy to understand, far surpassing Professor Lily's rote teaching!
The students gradually discovered that those exceptionally difficult exercises suddenly seemed to become simpler!
Meanwhile, Robert at the podium looked deathly pale.
Virt, on the other hand, tried his best to pretend that he was listening attentively. He had never hated himself so much for not doing his homework.
They were clearly both first-year students.
Clearly both sons of the Kingdom's Twin Swords.
Yet now, one was lecturing on the stage, and the other was terrified of being discovered for not doing his homework!
The hand gripping his pen became tighter than ever before.
...
Explaining the exercises went much smoother than Dark had expected, especially in terms of dragging out time =_=!
Ten minutes for questions, half an hour for exercises, and in the blink of an eye, forty minutes had passed.
Dark looked at the clock, knowing it was time for him to teach some useful knowledge.
So, he followed his initial train of thought and began to tell the story of "exponential explosion."
Of course, he couldn't really teach exponents, as that was far too advanced.
This idea stemmed from yesterday's accidental encounter with Emma and Virt and Robert's debt dispute.
Although Dark hadn't clearly heard the specifics, it didn't stop him from recalling a story about a millionaire going bankrupt.
Today, since he was standing on this platform, he should leave something behind.
So he followed his train of thought and began to speak: "The famous Dragon Egg Magister Da Vinci once said, arithmetic is the foundation of all magic! Some of you think that arithmetic has little impact on magic duels, so you don't study hard, and even fail to do the small amount of homework assigned. This behavior is extremely foolish!"
"If you can't even master basic arithmetic, not to mention magic duels, even in normal life, you may be tricked."
"Once upon a time, there was a millionaire named Jamie who went bankrupt because he didn't understand arithmetic!"
Then, Dark to explain in detail and patiently began to tell this story.
One day, millionaire Jamie encountered a strange thing.
A man named Weber said to him, "I want to make a contract with you. I will give you 100,000 Saint Coins every day for a whole 32 days, and you only need to give me 1 cent on the first day, and the money you give me each day will be double the previous day."
Jamie, only seeing the gap between 1 cent and 100,000, said in surprise, "Really?! Do you keep your word?"
The contract took effect, and Jamie was overjoyed.
On the first day, Jamie spent 1 cent and earned 100,000.
On the second day, Jamie spent 2 cents and earned 100,000.
By the 10th day, Jamie had earned a total of 1 million, while only paying out 5.12 Saint Coins in total.
By the 20th day, Jamie had earned a total of 2 million, while Weber had only earned a little over 5,000 Saint Coins.
Jamie couldn't help but think, "If only the contract could last for two or three months!"
But from the 21st day onwards, things took a turn!
On the 21st day, Jamie spent over 10,000, and earned 100,000.
By the 28th day, Jamie spent over 1.34 million, and earned 100,000.
In the end, while Jamie received 3.2 million Saint Coins in one month (32 days), he paid Weber over 21 million Saint Coins in total!
Jamie went bankrupt!
...
"Emma!"
Robert's roar echoed through the classroom.
