Chapter 8

The man with the microphone didn't seem to notice the impending danger, too caught up in his speech. "And so, my fellow citizens, we must stand strong in the face of this uncertainty! we must–"

His words were cut off by a loud hiss, as the giant purple snake sneaked into the crowded area. Panic erupted, with people screaming and running in all directions.

I rolled my eyes, "Ugh, I can't fight that monster for now... let's just find some zombies or something."

I turned to leave, but my eyes landed on the girl, who was standing frozen in fear. I looked at her and mumbled, "She looks pretty, wait! what am I thinking? I'm also a girl...'

I walked over to her, grabbing her arm. "Hey, let's get out of her before that snake decides to make us its next meal."

She stared at me, still looking shocked by the situation. "W-what about the others?"

I shrugged. "They're on their own, We need to prioritize our own survival."

I dragged her along, navigating through the chaotic streets. We weaved past panicked civilians and debris-filled alleys.

As we walked, the sounds of chaos and screams grew fainter, replaced by an eerie silence. I could feel eyes watching us, and my instincts told me we were getting close to our destination.

Suddenly, the girl spoke up, her voice barely above a whisper. "W-what's going on? Why are these monsters appearing everywhere?"

I glanced at her, she gripped my shirt tighter. "No questions."

We turned a corner, and the area came into view. It was filled with shambling, rotting corpses – zombies. I grinned, feeling excitement. "Ah, perfect. Now we're talking."

I pulled out my guide book, flipping through the pages to find the section on zombies. The girl watched me, confusion etched on her face.

I glanced at her, "Oh, by the way, what's your name? you look korean."

The girl's expression changed from confusion to surprise, and she hesitated for a moment before responding. "I-I'm Minji. And yeah, I'm korean."

I nodded, tucking the guide book away. "Nice to meet you, Min-ji."

I glanced at the area, taking in the layout. The zombies were scattered, but they seemed to be converging on a central point.

"Okay, here's the plan," I whispered to the girl. "We need to get to the other side of the place without getting caught. Stay close to me and follow my lead."

The girl nodded, her eyes wide with fear. "Let's go," I whispered.

I took a deep breath, scanning the area one last time before making moving. I saw an alleyway to our left, hidden by a dumpster. It looked like it might provide a safe route to the other side.

I grabbed Min-ji's arm, pulling her close. "Follow me," I whispered, darting towards the alleyway.

We slipped into the alley, the dumpster blocking our view of the zombies. I paused for a moment, listening to the sounds around us. The zombies were still converging, but they seemed to be ignoring the alleyway.

I nodded to Min-ji, and we began to move cautiously down the alley. The air was thick with the smell of rotting trash almost made me puke, and I could hear the sound of scurrying rodents coming from the shadows.

As we walked, I kept a close eye on Min-ji, making sure she was staying close. She seemed to be handling the situation okay, but I could still see the fear in her eyes.

Suddenly, I heard a faint shuffling noise coming from the end of the alley. I paused. It sounded like we were about to have company.

I grabbed Min-ji's arm, holding her back. "Wait," I whispered, my eyes fixed on the end of the alley.

The shuffling noise grew louder, and I could see a figure emerging from the shadows. It was a zombie, it's eyes cloudy and unfocused.

I slowly backed away, trying not to make any sudden movements. Min-ji followed my lead, her eyes wide with fear.

The zombie stumbled towards us, its arms outstretched. I could see that it was a fresh one, its skin still intact and its movements relatively quick.

I rummaged through my backpack, searching for something to defend ourselves. My hand closed around a thick book, which I had earlier.

I raised the book, aiming for the zombie's face. "Get ready to run," I whispered to Min-ji.

The zombie lunged at us, its jaws open wide. I threw the book directly at its face, hoping to distract it.

The zombie stumbled back. I grabbed Min-ji's arm, and we took off in a sprint, dashing down the alleyway as fast as we could.

We emerged from the alley, gasping for breath. I looked around, trying to get our bearings. We were in a narrow street.

Min-ji looked up at me, her eyes still wide with fear. "What now?" she whispered.

I hesitated, unsure of what to do next. But then I spotted something in the distance - a large building with a sign that read "City Hospital".
