Prologue (3)

He started living with his Aunt after his father's death.

On the day of the funeral, the hall was empty.

Only Edward and Juliet mourned him.

From that day onwards, Juliet vowed to raise Edward as her own and give him the best life, even at the cost of her own life.

It was her way of paying off the debt that she owed Tyler for not showing up during the tough times, she didn't even remember he existed untill she got the phone call from the hospital, she vowed to raise Edward untill she died.

She put Edward in school, Edward didn't find it hard to socialize in Middle school, he was a bright kid, lovable and intelligent, the teachers loved him.

But over time, as he grew, his social battery started to get drained. As he grew older, he realized that he was actually alone, he didn't have any friends, none of them really cared about him.

It was all just funs and games, some wanted to hang around him because of his aunt's money, some wanted to hang around him because he was popular and handsome, he was growing into a very handsome young man.

He noticed the shallowness of human relationships very early on and started distancing and detaching himself from people.

He soon became the anti social guy who didn't let anyone get too close to him.

He was very Intelligent, and loved physics. By the time he was in highschool, he had become a full blown loner, the distanced guy who only read books at the back of the class, he was the invisible nerdy guy.

Even bullies didn't make him a target because he wasn't even worth it to them.

He graduated high school as the best graduate in the entire state and was number one in physics in the country.

He wrote his entrance exams to go to the top college in the country and entered his first year as the best student.

He was a full nerd now. He was a nerd with plans, his only goal was to be successful, that was all he found as his joy. He started studying physics in college.

But during the middle of his first year, something happened. Juliet was dying, he had expected it, he noticed the signs but refused to ask her. He respected her privacy and waited for her to be the one to tell him. He hated prying.

"I'm sorry I didn't tell you all this while." Tears dropped down Juliet's cheeks as she layed on the hospital bed, weak and barely summoning enough strength to talk with.

"It's okay, even if you did tell me, it wouldn't have changed anything, I can't heal your heart disease. And I knew something was off, you always gave random excuses as to why you were going out everytime, I knew you were always going to the hospital, I figured something was wrong with your health. I should have asked, it's partly my fault." Edward held her hand as he muttered under his breath slowly and patted her head.

'im sorry aunt Juliet, I'm sorry I can't do anything for you, you helped me when I had no where to go. I will never forget you.' Edward thought to himself. He didn't want to say it out loud, because he knew he would cry if he did. He promised never to cry again. He needed to stay strong.

"That's why I never got married, I always turned down proposals, I don't even remember the last time I dated." Juliet coughed out blood as she said this.

"I don't have much time left, I'm already dying as we speak." Her voice was low and shaky, it was laced with fear.

"I'm- I'm scared Edward.. I don't know how death feels like." Tears ran down her cheek.

Edward closed his eyes and held her hands close to his chest. He was fighting the tears.

He hugged her.

"Good-- bye.. Ed." She summoned the last of her strength to say this as she felt comfortable in Edwards embrace, she felt warm.

Death was like a warm experience for her. It wasn't cold and lonely like she thought it would be. She wasn't pained or angry. The only regret she had was that she never got to see Edward become a man capable of fending for himself, she cursed her Chronic disease silently as she gave up the ghost and headed for the white, brilliant light.

"I've lost another person dear to me." Edward sat down in a bar alone on a Thursday night. He drank himself to stupor, he felt like he was cursed to be alone forever. He hated himself.

'im not even surprised anymore. My mom died as soon as she gave birth to me, my dad died because of me, and now my aunt is gone.' He had just finished with the funeral and ceremony for Juliet.

Her funeral wasn't as sad as Tyler's, she had people who cared for her and people who mourned her death.

He was 21 years old. He didn't know anyway to react to this massive loss, she was basically his mother who had raised him since he was nine.

She had left all her assets, properties and money to him in her will.

He felt ever grateful. He was going to make good use of it. He was trying to arrange his thoughts in the bar when his head started aching him, he headed back to his house to get a good night sleep and forget about everything.

"The dead will be dead. They're gone, nothing I can do about it but keep living." He said as he crumpled on his bed in his room, tired from the long day of the funeral activities and drinking.

"I think I might need therapy. My mind's all in shambles." He went to sleep that night with his head in a mess from the drink and lonely, sad thoughts.

He promised he would never cry again but he shed tears as he slept, remembering the times when Juliet will pet him to sleep and told him that he wasn't a bad kid because he didn't kill his father.

He told himself that he was drunk so the tears didn't count.
