The alarm blared through the collapsing facility, a shrill cry against the encroaching destruction. Emily's fingers flew across the keyboard, sweat dripping down her temple as Marcus grappled with the Ghost just feet away. The console flashed red again — OVERRIDE DENIED.
"Come on!" she hissed, slamming her fist against the panel.
Marcus twisted out of the Ghost's grip, landing a brutal elbow to his ribs. The Ghost stumbled but didn't fall. The countdown ticked relentlessly forward.
04:30… 04:29…
"Marcus! It's not working!" Emily's voice cracked with panic.
"Keep trying!" he barked, dodging a wild swing. The Ghost's face was a mask of calm fury.
"You think you understand what's happening here?" the Ghost sneered. "You've only seen shadows. You haven't even glimpsed the real enemy."
Marcus drove his fist into the Ghost's jaw — but the words chilled him more than the fight. "Then tell me," he said through gritted teeth.
The Ghost only smiled. "Too late."
The ground lurched violently, and a massive crack splintered the metal floor between them.
03:45… 03:44…
"Emily!" Marcus called. "Plan B!"
"On it!" she shouted back, already moving. She pulled a device from her bag — a small, ominous black box.
"You're out of your depth," the Ghost warned. "This facility's collapse is just the beginning. You don't even know what's buried beneath it."
Marcus felt his blood run cold. "What's beneath it?"
The Ghost's eyes glinted with something dark and triumphant. "Reckoning."
The word hit like a thunderclap.
03:00… 02:59…
"Emily, how much time?" Marcus demanded.
"Not enough!" she called back.
The Ghost surged forward, catching Marcus off guard. They crashed against the control panel, and sparks exploded in every direction.
"You can't stop this," the Ghost whispered. "But you can still choose how it ends."
Marcus struggled against the iron grip. "And what choice is that?"
The Ghost's smile widened. "Burn… or drown."
The countdown hit 02:00.
"Marcus!" Emily screamed.
The choice had to be made.
And there was no right answer.
