"How fragile you've become... It's been so long and you're still not better. You used to have such great stamina. How useless..."
My heart was filled with rage, my eyes burning red with anger.
Wouldn't any normal person become unhealthy after having a kidney removed?
Lavender! How dare you say such things!
She sighed again, "I made you some soup, but now you can't even drink it. What a shame. Let's go back to the hospital."
Since Lavender had spoken, the workers no longer dared to stop us. They called a cab right there to take me to the hospital.
Seeing my persistent high fever, the doctors and nurses were frightened and quickly transferred me to the intensive care unit.
Lavender left as soon as we arrived at the hospital. Blaine was in a room on the fifth floor, so she definitely wouldn't stay to take care of me. She tossed a wad of cash to Faye and said haughtily:
"Take good care of my fiancé!"
She emphasized the word 'fiancé', as if anyone would believe she actually cared about me.
After she left, the doctor hooked me up to an IV and scolded Faye, "The patient just came out of surgery! How could you let him leave the hospital without the doctor's permission?!"
Faye, completely unaware of the surgery, stood there helplessly, "What surgery?"
The doctor exclaimed angrily, "The organ transplant surgery! He just had it a few days ago! Faye's eyes widened in shock as she whipped her head around to look at me, tears instantly welling up in her beautiful eyes.
I wanted so badly to tell her everything was okay, but I was too weak to utter a single word.
After apologizing to the doctor, she sat down beside me and decisively made a phone call.
"Uncle, Aunt, I've found Nash."
Before my parents arrived with their bodyguards, I fell into a deep sleep. When I woke up again, my inflamed throat had finally recovered enough for me to speak.
Mom's face was streaked with tears as she held my scarred hand, sobbing uncontrollably.
"Son, you're finally back. Do you have any idea what your father and I have been through these past three years?"
My eyes welled up too as I croaked, "Mom, Dad, I'm sorry for worrying you."
Dad's face was stern as he stared at my legs. "What exactly happened? Why are you in this condition? Who did this to you?"
Just as I was about to say Lavender's name, she appeared at the door of the hospital room, clicking in on her high heels while pushing Blaine in a wheelchair.
"Uncle, Aunt, Nash has amnesia. He doesn't remember anything, please don't pressure him!"
"What?!"
Mom, Dad, and Faye were all stunned into silence. I stared coldly at Lavender. She lowered her head guiltily, "I'm sorry, Nash. I didn't mean to hide it from you. I was just afraid you wouldn't believe me if I told you the truth, so I never said anything."
Blaine nodded, his magnetic voice ringing out, "The truth is, you're the heir to the Channing Family, Nash."
I almost laughed out loud.
Lavender and Blaine clearly hadn't heard me call Mom and Dad earlier, otherwise they would've realized I'd regained my memory and wouldn't dare put on this act.
I signaled for Mom, Dad, and Faye to stay quiet. They looked puzzled but played along, not immediately exposing Lavender's fake facade.
Lavender continued her performance, her eyes red with fake tears:
"I'm so sorry, Uncle and Aunt. I meant to tell you about Nash earlier, but then Blaine got sick. Nash volunteered to donate his kidney to save him... I was afraid you'd be upset if you knew, so I kept quiet all this time."
