Devilish Research - Part 2

"Dammit, subject #3 is a failure, both the cells of the artificially grown devil cells are clashing with the homunculus still." I said whilst what amounted to a pound of cancerous flesh grew in front of me as the former corpse of subject #10001 which I modified a bit for this project was being consumed by an enormous amount of black bat wings.

I added the new mana circuits into the homunculus corpse alongside functioning organs this time, mostly cloned from a mixture of devil and human organs. Something to try and balance it all out and it initially looked like a success. Then this happened indicating it was another failure, but that was alright there was one part of the body that seemed to be stable.

Its left arm had transformed into a seemingly human-looking one, and yet the massive amount of mana/od flowing from it told a different story. So I separated the arm from the rest of the body and destroyed the remains knowing it had no further use beyond maybe a bomb ready to detonate.

Taking the time to study the arm, I noticed that while it looked like a normal Japanese human it did have the demonic power of a devil. Meaning that at least this part of the body was an initial success but something was different about it. Taking a look at the mana to see what differences it had with the original stray devil corpse I noticed something very peculiar. The mana looked as if it was playing a scene straight out of the bible, specifically Lucifer's rebellion against God.

Meaning that it probably became something more, my rituals alongside the leyline doing something to it beyond what I intended. Now that I was thinking about it, the arm's former body only exhibited physical changes but the man was concentrated all on this arm instead which meant that those mutations were caused due to a lack of proper mana which was quite interesting.

Looking at it further though the arm had a part of the original stray devil corpse, something that I went through a lot of trouble to replicate. Now necessarily clone as it couldn't become a true living being without some outside interferences but still, I had to use a combination of the original and replicated material.

Wanting to test the arm, I had no way of knowing just exactly what the mana was doing as I said earlier, it acted differently from regular demonic power/mana. I mean even if reincarnated devils weren't direct descendants of the original Lucifer, I was guessing they contained a bit of the essence of devils enough to turn them into one at least.

"So that means even if it's highly diluted the Evil Pieces make them artificial descendants of the original Lucifer and Lilith." I scratched my head as I wrote this all down in a special red notebook for this project.

"So does that mean it injects a tiny bit of humanity into them as well since Lilith is often described as the first woman, and would she be considered the first reincarnated devil or something else."

"Oh, so many new things to research but that will have to be for later as it's time for a self-inflicted experiment." I then grabbed a cleaver from upstairs and chopped my arm off from my elbow down enough so that the artificially created arm could replace it.

Well, when I tried to forcibly attach the arm to myself, instead of doing so I felt a massive rush of mana spill from it and be stolen by it. Luckily it wasn't my life force and arms are very replaceable thanks to a combination of magic and a tiny bit of science as well, not a lot but still a little bit.

Bandaging my arm, I brought down my goggles to study the man further getting a closer look at the substance. It seemed as though it regained some form of remanent memories from its artificially given ancestry. It inherited the earliest memories of the original fallen angels before they separated into devils and the Grigori or however it happened.

It inherited the very concept of Rebellion, to not be bound by the wills of others or perhaps if given enough power the laws of the world and magic itself. Purely theoretical of course, there was just no way of truly knowing but well I wanted to, and since it was rejecting a living being's body well perhaps I needed a corpse.

Well for right now I opened up one of the six empty tubes, attaching a few tubes to it to keep it fresh. Closing it off, I turned the machine on and let the liquid flood in, keeping it in suspended animation.

Once that was done I went to the few corpses of the homunculus, seeing which ones suited me and would function like a normal arm. Picking one up I chopped it off whilst getting the proper magic circles ready to do so. Stitching it together, I made sure to remove the secondary nervous system known as mana circuits making it act like a normal human arm.

Right now I had no way of knowing if my body could take in a new nervous system as these homunculus bodies were created for the sole purpose of doing so. They were molded and shaped into the body of a human but they were essentially giant mana batteries.

Once the stitching and magic circle was completed I activated it, pouring a bit of my mana into it as I got another idea for the next subject. I would modify the magic a bit but only so that the process is more streamlined for a right arm this time. One that instead of taking in Lucifer's concept of rebellion would take up the concept of a Dragon

Now the modern dragons as we know them today but rather creatures of chaos, the need to drag humanity into chaos or something similar to it perhaps. Although that requires a bit of a different formula than the one I used for the devil parts of it.

It was also about time to get my newest shipment of ingredients which would probably correlate with the start of DxD, or around that time anyway. I sighed rubbing my temple, as I realized that at least two months had passed wth my only success being an arm that I would need to find a use for later.

Oh well even if Im a Magus, I also consider myself a proper scientist and science can be a long and cruel path like magecraft.
