Chapter 42 – A Crazy Old Lady

Finding the Old Lady – Midnight is the Key

The streets were alive with noise, but I knew where to go next.

In the game, the only way to find the cave entrance was by talking to a weird old lady living in the city.

The problem?

She only showed up at her house at midnight.

And from what I remembered, she was a little… off.

I sighed, leaning against a wall in a quiet alley.

"This is going to be annoying."

The sword hummed. "So, let me get this straight. You're telling me the only way to find this so-called 'legendary artifact' is by waiting for some random old woman to come home?"

"Yeah."

"…What kind of game is this world, exactly?"

I scoffed. "A f*cking horrible one."

The sword chuckled. "Then why the hell did you play it?"

I sighed. "Because of a bet."

"A bet?"

"Yeah. Some idiot friend of mine said I wouldn't last more than ten hours in it. I took that personally."

"And?"

I groaned. "I finished the damn thing. All routes. All endings. Every single f*cking achievement."

The sword whistled. "Damn. That's dedication."

I crossed my arms. "No. That's regret."

Midnight – Time to Find the Crazy Old Lady

Finally, the city quieted down.

I made my way through the dark streets, looking for a run-down house.

And sure enough—there it was.

A filthy, broken-down shack at the edge of the city.

And sitting outside, rocking back and forth on a creaky old chair, was the old lady.

She had wild, unkempt gray hair, a hunched back, and a grin that made me uncomfortable.

Her eyes locked onto me the second I stepped closer.

"Ohhh? What's this? A young'un looking for something~?"

I sighed. "Yeah. I heard you know things."

She cackled. "Oh, I know many things, dearie! But information ain't free!"

Here we go.

I already knew where this was heading.

"What do you want?"

She leaned in, grinning wider. "Find me something first."

I resisted the urge to groan.

Figures.

"Fine. What am I looking for?"

Her grin widened. "Something precious. Something lost. Something… old."

I frowned. That was vague as hell.

But I knew one thing—this wasn't going to be easy.
