Chapter 7

"Melody, I'm sorry. I've failed you."

"I thought we had so much more time. I thought we could still be like we used to..."

"I was wrong, so terribly wrong."

"Please, open your eyes and look at me, will you? I'm begging you, Melody..."

His voice was filled with remorse and anguish.

Mom came over too, cradling my lifeless body, weeping inconsolably.

"Melody, Mommy's sorry. I never loved you properly."

"If only I had cared for you more, spent more time with you, maybe this wouldn't have happened..."

Watching them, a wave of bitterness washed over me.

James might have lost his mind.

He said he wanted to reveal my identity, to throw me a grand wedding and funeral.

Everyone who heard this said James had gone crazy, telling him to calm down.

But no matter who tried to persuade him, he wouldn't listen.

He went looking for venues, wedding planners, funeral directors, and people to redecorate our marital home.
