CHAPTER 43

“What a long day,” Damian said, stretching his limbs as they got out of the car. The sun had started to dip behind the long trees, painting the sky in streaks of orange, pink, and lavender. There was a soft breeze in the air, just enough to cool the warmth of the day clinging to their skin.

“Yeah,” Sienna replied, her voice a little distant. “A long one.”

Damian turned to look at her as he shut the door. She was staring at the horizon, her arms folded across her chest. Her voice hadn’t sounded like her, not fully. And the way she’d been zoning out since they left the restaurant hadn’t gone unnoticed.

“Baby,” he said softly, reaching out to brush his knuckles against her arm. “Is everything okay?”

She looked at him and forced a small smile, nodding. “I’m fine.”

But he narrowed his eyes. “You’re lying.”

Her brows lifted in surprise.
