The sun was getting low, casting a soft light over Manhattan as Bobby exited Knight Industries. The day had been busy, yet his, mind kept drifting back to Sophia. She'd looked exhausted lately, and despite her reassurances, he couldn't help but worry. He decided to swing by Lancaster Developments and try to persuade her to head home early. She could use the rest
Stepping into the lobby, he greeted the receptionist, who smiled warmly, recognizing him instantly. "Good evening, Mr. Knight. Mrs. Knight is still in her office, third floor."
"Thank you," Bobby replied with a polite nod, heading toward the elevator.
The third-floor hallway was almost empty, most employees had already clocked out and left. As Bobby got closer to Sophia's office, he heard the sound of faint laughter and a familiar, irritating voice mixed with hers. His chest tightened uncomfortably with an uneasy pang.
Reaching the doorway, his heart dropped at the sight before him. Sophia was sitting at her desk looking tired but smiling faintly, while Daniel hung way too close, showing her something on his tablet. He leaned in, whispering something next to her ear, and she let out a soft laugh, shaking her head like it was nothing.
Bobby's fists balled up tight, a rush of jealousy and suspicion hitting him harder than he expected. He lingered just a moment longer, wrestling with his temper, trying to cool off. But before he could get a grip Sophia glanced up, eyes widening with surprise when she saw him in the doorway.
"Bobby?" Sophia said, standing abruptly. "What are you doing here?"
Daniel stood up as well, a smirk forming on his face as he nodded casually. "Evening, Bobby. Just going over some project updates with Sophia."
Bobby's jaw tightened visibly. "So I see."
He didn't bother hiding his irritation. Turning abruptly, he muttered sharply, "I was just leaving anyway," before quickly walking away, tension radiating from him with every step.
Sophia watched him leave, her stomach twisting into knots. "Bobby—wait!" She quickly turned to Daniel, her voice cold. "We'll finish this tomorrow. Please leave."
Daniel nodded slowly, his expression unreadable. "Of course, Sophia."
Daniel's exit barely registered, her heart sped up as she grabbed her things, rushing after Bobby. But by the time she reached the lobby, he was already gone, leaving behind a heavy sense of unease.
Back at home, tension filled the air like an impending storm. Bobby was pacing around the living room, his frustration building with every step he took. When the front door swung open, Sophia rushed in, her face a mix of exhaustion and nerves.
"Bobby," she started, easing the door shut with a quiet click, her voice careful. "What was that all about?"
He stopped walking, turning sharply to face her, hurt evident in his eyes. "What was that? You tell me, Sophia. Cause what I walked in on didn't exactly scream just work' to me."
Sophia sighed heavily, dropping her bag onto the table. "It was exactly that, Bobby. Daniel was helping me go through the Hudson Project reports. That's all it was."
"Helping?" he scoffed bitterly. "He was practically whispering in your ear, and you were laughing like it was a date."
Sophia's expression hardened, her patience wearing thin. "You're making this way bigger than it is. I was exhausted and stressed out, and he was just trying to lighten the mood. I was keeping it civil that's it."
Bobby's voice hardened. "You're being naïve, Sophia. Daniel isn't just a coworker. You know exactly how manipulative he is. Or did you forget how he was in school.?"
Anger flashed in Sophia's eyes. "You think I'd do something behind your back? You think I'd jeopardize us for Daniel Monroe, of all people?"
Bobby exhaled sharply, running a hand through his hair. "I don't know what to think anymore! Why won't you listen to me? Why can't you just admit he's trouble?"
She stepped closer, frustration clear on her face. "Because there isn't a problem! You're making this about Daniel when it's about you not trusting me!"
The room went silent. Both stared at each other, breathing heavily, hurt radiating between them.
Sophia finally broke the silence, voice softer yet firm. "I love you, Bobby. I married you, not Daniel. But I won't keep defending myself every time I talk to a coworker."
He let out a heavy sigh, the fight suddenly draining from him, replaced by exhaustion and guilt. "I just can't stand seeing him all over you like that. I trust you, Sophia, but It's him I don't trust."
She moved toward him, taking his hand, and squeezing softly. "Please, Bobby, believe me when I say I can handle him."
He paused, then slowly pulled his hand back. "I just need a minute," he mumbled under his breath, slipping off toward their bedroom, leaving Sophia standing there, feeling more distant from him than ever before.
Morning arrived with gray skies and a heaviness that lingered from their argument. Bobby woke first, immediately feeling the guilt pressing heavily upon him. He turned, looking at Sophia still asleep, noticing how pale she seemed. He gently touched her forehead, startled by how warm she felt.
"Sophia," he whispered, gently shaking her awake. "Are you okay?"
Her eyes fluttered open slowly, confusion on her face as she sat up weakly. "I—I don't feel great. Just dizzy."
His heart sank. All the pent-up frustration vanished in a blink, swallowed by a surge of worry."Stay here. I'm taking you to the doctor."
Sophia opened her mouth ready to argue, but another wave of dizziness rolled through, cutting her off. She just gave a small nod instead, too worn out to say anything else.
Bobby quickly made a few calls, informing both their families of the situation before carefully helping Sophia to the car. The short drive to their family doctor was filled with silence—both heavy with worry and unspoken apologies.
After a thorough examination and some tests, the doctor entered the room, smiling warmly at the anxious couple.
"Mr. and Mrs. Knight, we've got your test results back," the doctor said gently. "Sophia, your symptoms are completely normal. Congratulations you're pregnant."
Sophia's eyes widened in shock making her speechless. "Pregnant?" she whispered in disbelief.
Bobby sat stunned, emotion overwhelming him, joy and regret flooding through simultaneously. "We're having a baby?"
The doctor grinned, nodding as she held up the ultrasound. "Actually, I wanted to go over that with you. Here's baby one, here's baby two, and—check this—here's baby three. You're having triplets! We'll need to get you in with an OB-GYN ASAP."
Sophia gasped softly, tears forming as she looked at Bobby, whose expression shifted from shock to pure awe.
"I—I'm sorry," Bobby whispered softly, gripping her hand gently, voice thick with emotion. "For everything last night. I was wrong—I should've trusted you more."
Sophia squeezed his hand tightly, a tear slipping down her cheek. "I understand, Bobby. I love you."
He leaned forward, resting his forehead against hers, whispering tenderly, "I love you too. I can't believe we're going to be parents. There's going to be 3 of us running around."
Right then and there in that little doctor's office, all the strain between them dissolved, swallowed up by a rush of happiness too big to hold. Sophia and Bobby clung to each other, knowing life was about to flip upside down in the best way, quietly vowing that nothing—not last night, not anything—would wedge them apart again.
