The Hidden Room

Chapter 9: The Hidden Room

We frantically searched for a place to hide, our eyes scanning the dusty corridor. That's when I spotted a small door hidden behind a tattered tapestry.

"In here!" I whispered, pushing Emily toward the door.

We slipped inside just as the footsteps reached the corner of the corridor. I held my breath, listening as the footsteps paused outside our hiding place.

"Do you think they know we're in here?" Emily whispered.

I shook my head. "I don't think so. But we need to be quiet."

As we waited, I realized that we were in some sort of hidden room. The walls were lined with old bookshelves, and the air was thick with the scent of leather and paper.

Suddenly, Emily gasped. "Look at this!" she whispered.

She was pointing to an old diary hidden on a shelf. As I opened the cover, a piece of paper slipped out.

"It's a map," Emily breathed. "A map of the school's secret passages."

I stared at the map, my mind racing. This could be our ticket out of here.

But as I looked up at Emily, I saw a look of fear in her eyes.

"What's wrong?" I whispered.

"I think we're not alone in here," she replied.

I froze, listening. And then I heard it. A faint rustling sound, coming from the shadows.

What was hiding in the darkness?
