When Felix opened his eyes, the first odd thing he noticed… was that he was in his bed. Properly tucked in.
But… he clearly remembered passing out on the doorstep.
Confused, he slowly lifted himself up, and pulled off the blanket. He was still wearing the clothes from the previous night, stinking of sweat and basil. His shoes and jacket, however, were off.
At first, he thought that he might have crawled to bed at some point… But that wouldn't explain his shoes and the jacket! Even if, by some miracle, he were to reach his bed while he was half-conscious, wouldn't he just fall flat on his face, still fully clothed? And yet, his shoes were on the floor right by the front door, and his jacket on the hanger. In perfect order, even tidier than he usually left them when taking them off himself.
Was he really supposed to believe he managed to put them away so nicely while sleepwalking? And even remember to lock the door?
Felix glanced suspiciously at the fox curled up on his bed. "Remi, is this your doing?"
But Remi only gave him a lazy glance, swished its tail, wrapping it around its body, and went back to napping.
Well, it's not like Felix expected any other response. So, he shrugged his shoulders, turned on the lights, and got out of bed. It was still dark outside, but he was… oddly well rested - in fact, he hadn't felt that great ever since his escape! - so he didn't want to waste his time in bed.
However, the surprises didn't end there. As Felix walked over to the kitchen and opened the fridge, planning to whip himself a simple breakfast with whatever was left… He couldn't help but pause, staring at the shelves completely stunned.
It was full.
He blinked once, twice, thrice… But nothing changed. Was he hallucinating? But as he reached his hand inside, he could grab all the food just fine?
Once the initial shock had passed, he checked the cupboards next, and it was the same. The groceries he had made the previous day were all in his house, arranged neatly in the kitchen. And in a much tidier manner than they usually were!
But he left them. He remembered it clearly. He left them behind in the middle of the pavement when the rogue attacked him, so that they wouldn't slow him down as he tried to run away. And now they somehow made their way back to his house?
…Did he imagine it? Was it just some sort of nightmare he had?
Or did all the stress make him go insane?
…No.
Felix grabbed his jumper, and lifted it to his nose, sniffing it with utmost focus.
Just as he thought, the stench of the Alpha's pheromones was still on him. And when he took a closer look, two of the cans had dents in them, likely from when Felix smashed the bag into the rogue's head!
"Remi, care to explain?" Felix turned back to the fox.
And he was promptly ignored.
His brows twitched. Of course, he was glad that he got into his bed instead of sleeping on his doorstep. That all the groceries he had lost were recovered. But that didn't make the situation any less unsettling, okay? Just because it was to his benefit THIS TIME…
"Hey, Remi," he started again, walking toward the bed, although with slight hesitation. "You…"
Just as he was about to reach out to Remi, his phone suddenly rang, making him flinch. Felix gave the fox one more glance, but in the end he sighed, and answered his phone instead. "Yes?"
"Lex? Where were you?" Eden asked on the other end of the line.
"…What?"
"We tried calling you for hours! You were supposed to work today, did you forget?"
"No, of course I remember… Wait, am I late? Shoot, I'll get there as soon as I can!" Felix brushed his hair back, looking around frantically. What to do, what to do… He STANK, and was in a desperate need of a shower, so he couldn't go to work like that, could he? How late was he even-
"…Did you just wake up or something?" Eden's voice sounded half-incredulous, half-amused. "Late? Your shift is already over!"
"…What?" Felix finally glanced at the clock. He was supposed to work 10 AM to 5 PM… And it was already past 7 PM.
He should have realized that it was something off. The sky was dark… It turns out it wasn't that the sun hadn't risen yet, but rather, it had already set again! Felix slept through a whole day!
"I'm so sorry," he finally said. "I… got sick last night, and I was unconscious in bed the whole day it seems…"
Eden chuckled. "No worries, just make sure to explain yourself well to the boss next time you're in! Luckily, it wasn't too busy today, so we were just fine!"
"…Alright. And I'm sorry once again."
With a heavy sigh, Felix ended the call, and dropped down on the bed. All the energy he had just a moment ago was suddenly drained, and he didn't feel like moving a muscle… If it wasn't for the basil scent clinging to him, which bothered him to no end, he'd probably stay like that until he fell asleep again…
But it was too annoying to have the Alpha's pheromones on him, so he eventually forced himself to get up, and went for a shower.
And good thing he did! Because not even an hour later, someone knocked on his door.
Felix ignored it at first. He didn't feel like meeting anyone. He just focused on knitting stitch after stitch…
But the person outside was relentless. Their presence alone was already distracting, and when combined with the constant knocking, it made it impossible for Felix to focus, causing his knitting to turn out even worse than usual… Which seemed almost impossible!
So, eventually he let out an exasperated sigh, hid his 'work' in a drawer, and stomped over to the front door.
"What do you want?"
"Hm, is that how you welcome your mate?" Kade shook his head with a sad expression. "After I rushed back here as soon as I could…"
Felix remained silent, just staring at the Alpha, 'Get to the point' written all over his face.
"Well, it's alright. I know you're shy about expressing your feelings… We can talk about it later. For now, we have something more important to do! Let's get you all fixed up!" Kade announced, placing his hand on the shoulder of a petite Beta woman standing by his side. "I brought you a doctor from the pack!"
…A doctor?
Felix's gaze shifted to the woman, his face instantly turning pale.
Anything but that!
