"I… I want to come too…" An Ran said.
Though what had happened earlier had frightened her, the moment Richard arrived, that fear had dissipated. The ** vampire had triggered a sense of déjà vu, as if she'd experienced this terror before. An Ran felt she needed to confront it, and the best way to do so was to face it head-on. Now, with Richard by her side, she felt invincible.
All eyes turned to the young girl, and An Ran suddenly felt awkward. Did they think she'd just get in the way?
In truth, An Ran was overthinking it.
Richard had actually planned to bring her along from the start. He wasn't comfortable leaving her at home, fearing that if Murong Mingyue's judgment was wrong and the Hahn family's vampire returned, what would happen then?
In the end, not only did An Ran join them, but she also took on the role of the driver, as Murong Mingyue's pace was far too slow.
An Ran drove the car, while Murong Mingyue sat in the backseat. No one had expected that, following the spirits' guidance, they'd return to Saint Academy.
However, it seemed they were once again too late. By the time they reached the demolition site of the old school building, all that remained was a corpse in a white lab coat, half of which was stained with blood that had now turned black.
Dr. D…
His eyes were wide open, filled with resentment and unwillingness. His glasses were nowhere to be found, and a large hole had been torn through the center of his chest. His teeth and hands were smeared with blood and flesh, clearly indicating he'd been in a brutal struggle.
Sheffield, wearing white gloves, knelt down to examine the corpse. After a moment, he said, "From the wounds, it's clear he was killed by a vampire. The marks on his chest, in particular, were likely made by a vampire's claws."
Hearing this, An Ran suddenly recalled earlier that day when Richard's nails had grown long and sharp, effortlessly drawing blood with a single swipe. At the time, she'd been surprised but not frightened, because it was Richard. Yet, seeing Dr. D's corpse, she couldn't help but feel a wave of fear.
Richard noticed An Ran's unease, understanding it stemmed from the gruesome sight of Dr. D's body. He was about to reach for her hand to comfort her when the cross she wore intervened, stopping him. He couldn't help but feel frustrated.
Just moments ago, Dr. D's body had been intact, but now it began to decay rapidly, quickly becoming unrecognizable.
Murong Mingyue explained, "The actual time of his death wasn't now. In fact, he died several hours ago."
The decaying corpse made An Ran nauseous, and she turned her gaze away, no longer able to look at it.
"Lend me your gloves," Murong Mingyue said to Sheffield.
Assuming he wanted to inspect the wounds himself, Sheffield handed them over.
However, Murong Mingyue only put on one glove, placing it on Dr. D's skull while pressing his other hand to his own forehead.
Murong Mingyue closed his narrow, phoenix-like eyes, his brows alternating between furrowed and relaxed.
After a moment, he opened his eyes again.
His expression was calm, his gaze sharp and intelligent. "Dr. D was indeed killed by a vampire. However, he also dealt a significant blow to the vampire."
