Diego spoke first. "Yeah, I said so. What is it that you want? Tell me, and I'll do anything." Jane used his words as an excuse. "I won't need it now, so keep it for later, okay?" she replied.

Even though Diego had answered, he was not satisfied. He kept staring at Jane, and she felt uneasy. Her stomach fluttered with nervous butterflies, and her heart tingled. "Why is he staring at me like that?" she wondered silently. To break the tension, Jane jumped up and said, "Don't you have anything to do? Maybe Dante, John, Leo, or someone else needs you outside. Go join them—I'm fine." She wanted him to leave quickly before she did something she might later regret. But Diego insisted, "I'd rather stay here with you and make sure you are okay." His words made Jane feel guilty, and deep down she wished that Ms. Rose or someone else would step in.

Outside the room, John and Leo were in the middle of an argument. "I think Jane likes the boss too, but she is scared because of what she's been through," John said. Leo replied, "Not only does the boss like Miss Stadlar, but I think Dante does as well. Have you seen the way he looks at her? He always does everything for her without being told twice. I see something between them." They continued chatting as they drank their coffee. Suddenly, someone smacked them on the back of their heads—it was Dante. Shocked, they straightened up. "Why do you both love gossiping so much? You will never change. Go outside; there are ladies waiting for you. They've been waiting for hours," Dante said. At the mention of girls, the two ran out without a second thought. Dante then went to check on them .

Meanwhile, Diego was lost in thought. "How do I win her over?" he murmured quietly. When Jane heard him, she asked, "What did you say? Are you talking to me?" Diego shook his head slightly and replied, "No."

Jane then continued, "Sometimes, I wonder about the story behind your mysterious style. I know your name, that your father saved me, and that your father and my mom were acquaintances, but I don't know much else about you. I'm just curious. As your assistant, I want to know who you really are. Last time I asked why you don't drive yourself, you said you'd tell me the story another day. I'm bored now and would like to know more about you. You can ask me anything in return, and I will tell you."

Diego was taken aback by her questions. "Is that really what you want?" he asked hesitantly.

"No, I just want to know you. I'm curious in a business way," Jane replied, careful not to give anyone the wrong idea. After a pause, Diego sighed and said, "Alright, I'll tell you what little I can, and when the time is right, I'll tell you the rest."

Diego then began recounting the past. "I haven't told anyone this before except those who grew up with me in this house, but I think it's best you know to avoid complications. It all started on the day we met at the hospital—you might not remember. That day, I was driving my dad for the first time after getting my license. I wanted to show him I could drive, even though he told me not to take that route. I just wanted to prove I could do it. So, I took that route. Everything went well until we reached a T-junction. Suddenly, a truck hit us from the left and forced our car to swerve. My dad, my younger sister, and I were in the car. My younger sister died on the spot, but my dad and I were still alive and needed help."

He paused, swallowing hard before continuing, "We needed blood. The nearest hospital did not have any blood matching ours because of all the emergencies that day. My dad gave up his chance by telling them to save me instead, as his condition was better than mine. Then the doctor shouted that they were looking for someone with O+ blood, but nobody answered. And then you stepped up and volunteered. They took you, ran some tests, and that's how you donated blood for us."

Jane was shocked and could hardly process the memory, but Diego pressed on. "You were dressed in black and beige. When we woke up, we searched for you everywhere but couldn't find you. Then, my father's illness worsened and we left the country. When I returned, I searched for you, and so did my father. That was when he met your mother and learned you were her daughter. It was also the day she told us you had married months ago—which meant I was too late." Diego paused briefly to wipe something from Jane's face. Jane was stunned yet eager to know more.

Diego continued, "On the day we were about to finalize our family business contract and were heading to your family's house, we saw people gathered outside your place and an ambulance waiting. My dad rushed down, but no one would let him pass. That's when we learned that your parents had passed away. Ever since, we have been watching over you from afar."

Inside, Jane felt a mix of sadness and pain. She felt guilty for not being there when her parents died. Then she asked, "How did you get to know Dante, and why did your mother leave?" But as soon as the question left her lips, Diego's face changed. Quickly, she changed her question. "What about your partner, your ex, or the document you were supposed to give to my parents that day? What did it say?"

Diego stood up to leave, but Jane held his hands. "Please, I want to know," she insisted, and he sat back down.

With a heavy sigh, Diego continued, "We wanted you to leave your marriage, and we were about to clear your parents' names. But then, we were told to save you first because they made a mistake by giving you to that evil man." Jane's eyes widened in shock, but Diego wasn't finished. "After that, they asked us to clear the debts first. That is how we managed the debt. We later bought the company from Daniel, and it merged with the Orlov empire. We were on our way with the document to finalize the deal when we saw what had happened to your parents."

Jane muttered, "This can't be real, can it?"

For so long, Daniel had told her a different story and even made her worship him. All the debt she had been paying suddenly made less sense. "I paid those debts for 13 months. So who was the money really going to?" she asked Diego.

"They were going to Lucy's account. On the day of your anniversary, my dad found out the truth. When he went to Daniel Crestwell Estate, he confirmed everything. That's also when he saw you falling—and he knew who pushed you," Diego replied softly.

Jane found it hard to accept all this new information. Diego, keeping his emotions in check, murmured, "There's still more you should know. Perhaps Viktor Orlov told me everything." Gathering her courage, Jane asked, "So, you mean I was in that toxic marriage all for nothing? Who pushed me? Who was it?"
