Chapter 95: No.

NIGEL STOOD ON the sand, facing a large lake whose water lay still as glass under the peach sky. His eyes flipped, assessing the area. The empty beach stretched for miles to his left and right, pristine and quiet.

Octnavin and Sloan wandered closer to the water’s edge, their movements unhurried. Keltrix and Murry stood quietly, gazing out at the serene expanse as if it were the most beautiful thing they had ever seen.

Were they going to drown him? Nigel’s thoughts flickered to his deepest fear. It would be a good way to get rid of a hybrid—a tragic water accident.

“Very funny.” Pete playfully pushed him, a warm presence against his back. “No one is going to drown you.”

“Nigel, you are highly entertaining.” Octnavin chuckled, his deep voice carrying across the sand. “Your never-ending distrust truly amuses me.”

“I get it.” Murry motioned to the king, a wry smile on his face. “Octnavin isn’t really warm and fuzzy.”
