She came through moments later, in the arms of Quinn, who seemed to be muttering prayers for her life.
That's funny, she didn't even know what her life was at the moment, perhaps it was all a big joke.
"Oh thank goodness you are okay." She whispered letting her break free from her grip.
All the information she took in moments before came crashing down and she knew she had no time to wallow in self pity.
"What are we doing now?" She questioned looking at Quinn.
"In a few minutes we will have to pick weapons for the test. We will wander into the woods and our strengths and knowledge and power will be tested." Quinn responded.
Quinn knew a lot about this, her two brothers were about to be seniors, her family was royalty, she was very prepared for the test and it wasn't because she was trusting on her dragon powers.
She had prepared for years for this day. She was ready.
Liz nodded, taking in as much information as she could.
" Any surprises I should know about?" Liz questioned looking up the sky, she knew she didn't have time for surprises. She had a lot of questions. Questions that needed answers.
"Most challenges will be based on your fears and history. If you don't know what you are yet, you are to rely on your weapon. And at the end of the day… you never remember what happened during the test. If you pass a a symbol of the mystic tree will appear on your skin, if you don't well…. You go back home and forget everything."
This whole thing was a bargain. She was barging with her life. She didn't have powers, she didn't know the history of mystic creatures, and by goodness grace she barely knew how to fight or wield a sword.
She nosed either way she was going to be fine.
A few minutes after they were called forward to pick their weapons, she watched as many picked swords and spears and daggers and other weapons.
But none seemed to be able to pick up the bow that sat by the edge.
She walked up to it, feeling a thrum in her fingers. She felt her soul yearn to grip the bow.
But as she went for it a hand caught hers.
Silver eyes stared down at her.
"This might be to powerful for you, you may hurt yourself." He whispered.
Where had he come from.
He may have been right, but she wanted it.
Looking him dead in the eye, she picked up the bow and arrow.
It hearted up in her hand before cooling down.
It had chosen her just as much as she had chosen it.
She turned around and left, determination in her blood and her head held high.
She walked back to the group of freshmen.
They stood in a like as they listened to the principal give them orders.
"These are the rules for the golden tests, go against them and you will be punished. You go into the forests and face your tests, do not fear, it would fell like seconds or minutes, but in reality you will be in there for days, if you pass, the golden test will bring you back right here, and if you fail… may the odds be forever with you. And do not try to remember what happened in the test, it's impossible, do not bring anything from the test back with you. Protect yourself and survive and you will prove yourself to this school,You may go."
The sound of shot being fired has them scrambling forward further into the woods, each waiting for their test to begin.
There wasn't any need for pairs so she wandered on her own.
Like before, her core told her to go left, into the thicker parts of the woods and she did, going deeper and deeper till the light of the sun was no more.
She looked back for a second, she could have sworn she heard her name.
She scanned the place with her eyes, her grip on her bow tightened.
She gave the forest one last stare before she turned around…
A shocked gasp left her lips
Her test had started…
