I can never be your Luna

CHAPTER FIVE

Elara's pov

Ronan seemed to study me for a moment before he let go of me, much to my disappointment, with a curse as he created some distance between us.

"I can't have you this close and not touch you. It's driving me insane" he growled.

"Then let me go" I said calmly, crossing my hands in front of me.

"Not a chance" his eyes steeled.

"We had a deal last night" he reminded me.

"We weren't thinking rationally Ronan, clearly you see that" I pointed out.

"I think we knew exactly what we were doing" he argues.

"I don't see a world where I can be your Luna. I already told you I don't believe in fate" I explained.

"You said you would give 'us' a chance Elara" he reminded me and I shivered at the sound of my name on his lips.

"Haven't you ever wished to fall in love naturally and be with whoever you chose rather than being tied down by some bond to someone you might not have ordinarily been attracted to?" I inquired.

"No" he simply answered and I deflated, unsure what to say.

"Our deal still stands unless you have changed your mind and will instead bear the consequences of your actions?" He quirked a questioning brow at me.

I weigh my options once more and sigh in resignation knowing the only way out would be to fool him and act in a way that would make him throw me out.

"Our deal still stands" I conceded and the sides of his lips tugged upwards.

"If you have anything up your sleeve you should probably drop it because nothing is going to make me let you go" he mused and my eyes widened, wondering if I was so obvious in my intentions.

"So when are you going to mark me?" I bit my bottom lip and just like the night before his eyes darkened. He slowly walked back towards me and I had to stifle the urge to take several steps back.

"When I mark you it would be because you want to be with me, you want to be a part of the pack and not because of some sense of obligation" he promised, his finger lightly trailing just below my collar bone where I knew he intended for his mark to rest. I gulped and looked away from him, my cheeks heating at his words.

"Then perhaps you would never mark me" I argued and to my surprise he chuckled. The sound was deep and husky and sexy like everything else about him.

"Time will tell" he commented with one last caress to my skin before he backed away and instantly I missed his warmth.

Before I could respond a knock was heard at the door and I was glad Ronan had already put much needed distance between us.

"Come in" Ronan called out.

"Ronan" a dark skinned man with a buzz cut and a confident smile strolled into the room. His eyes sparkled as he looked from Ronan to I.

"Callan I would like you to meet Elara my mate" he said to the man.

So this was Diana's mate, I gave the man a once over.

"Mi alma this is Callan my beta" he said to me and my eyes narrowed at the use of the nickname he had given me.

"It's a pleasure to finally meet you Luna. I'm at your service" the man, Callan, stretched out his hand to me.

"I'm not your Luna" I muttered before reluctantly placing my hand in his with a small smile planted on my lips.

A low growl from Ronan had the man dropping my hand with a little chuckle.

"Was there something you needed?" Ronan asked the man, his eyes blazed with annoyance.

"I need to speak to you about something important" Callan sobered.

They stared at each other for a few seconds almost as if they were silently communicating.

"I'll leave you both to it" I bade them good bye and Ronan promised to seek me out later.

I returned to my room and decided to take Diana up on her offer after hours of sitting in boredom.

The other woman was beyond thrilled and she wasted no time in carting me out of the pack house and into a vehicle.

"So what do you think of the little you've seen of Silverfang pack?" She asked with a wide grin as we walked through the store.

"For starters, everyone is staring at me" I murmured and gestured around me to prove my point. Everyone in the store seemed to be trying to get a glimpse of me and they were not to subtle about it.

"News travels fast and this is the first time Alpha Ronan is bringing a female home. Everyone is curious to know who you are" she explained.

"Ronan has never had a girlfriend?" I quirked a brow, unable to mask my curiousity.

"I know it's kind of hard to believe but he hasn't. He spends too much time caring about everyone else but himself" she revealed as she picked out more clothes from the racks.

"I don't have that much money for this much clothes Diana" I confessed, heat creeping up my cheeks.

"I don't expect you to use your money dear. Alpha Ronan has ordered that everything be put on his tab" she explained and my lips parted.

"I can't do that" I shook my head vehemently.

"Of course you can. You are his mate" she chuckled as she went on piling clothes.

By the time we returned to the pack house I was exhausted and immediately headed up to my room after thanking Diana for her time.

I contemplated going to Ronan's office to thank him but decided against it. I would speak to him when I was well rested. My door creaked open and I stared in confusion as the room looked bare and stripped, showing no signs of habitation at all.
