Chapter 17: A Headshot!

Seeing Gu Anqing safely outside, Huang Ming quickly leaped back out.

As soon as he landed, Liu Shuang'er's urgent voice came through the radio:

"Huang Ming, run! They're coming!"

Before she could finish,

Huang Ming grabbed Gu Anqing's wrist and bolted like a wild horse, sprinting forward.

"Fatso, run!"

Li Chang'an hesitated for less than a second before taking off after them.

"Huang Ming! They're chasing you, but there aren't many—only about seven or eight!"

Shuang'er's anxious voice continued over the radio.

She operated the drone, watching the three of them running for their lives. Her nerves were on edge.

"Brother Huang, think of something! I can't keep running!"

Li Chang'an was already out of breath, slowing down as if he were about to collapse.

The zombies behind them were relentless, like heat-seeking missiles locked onto their targets, determined to tear them apart.

This couldn't go on. Shuang'er was frantic. Huang Ming, while dragging Gu Anqing along, calmly thought:

*How can I stop the zombies? Make them trip?*

"Fatso, I've got an idea. When you see me turn back, follow my lead. We'll take them all out!"

Huang Ming pulled out various balls from his spatial dimension—billiard balls, glass marbles, lead weights—and tossed them behind him in a chaotic scatter.

"Now, fatso! Let's finish them!"

The zombies behind them stumbled over the smooth balls, falling repeatedly as they tried to get up.

Seeing this, Li Chang'an finally caught on, though his stamina was nearly spent. He slowly turned back.

Huang Ming didn't dare take risks. He immediately let go of Gu Anqing's hand and, in a flash, delivered five consecutive slashes, taking down five zombies before stopping.

Li Chang'an took out two, choosing the smaller ones.

One zombie remained, struggling to get up from the ground.

Huang Ming cracked his neck, the joints popping, and stepped forward, sending the last zombie to its final rest.

Gu Anqing, witnessing this, was pale as a sheet.

The sudden burst of intense movement left her lips dry and cracked, her long legs trembling uncontrollably.

"Huang Ming! Keep moving! You can't stop. There are still zombies around. If they gather, it'll be a disaster!"

Shuang'er, seeing this, let out a long sigh of relief but remained vigilant, continuing to scout the area with the drone.

Huang Ming supported the trembling Gu Anqing and asked tentatively,

"Senior, can you keep going? We can't stop. There are still zombies around. We're almost there."

"Yeah, let's go. We'll rest once we're back in Building 10."

Gu Anqing looked at Huang Ming's handsome profile, and the earlier gloom in her heart dissipated. She hadn't expected the man she was to submit to would be so capable and caring.

Being so intimately supported by him, a strange, indescribable feeling began to sprout in her heart.

Gradually, the number of zombies around them decreased. The three were nearing Building 10, and Huang Ming finally relaxed. They were safe now.

If there was anywhere safe on campus, it was around Building 10.

The building's residents had cleared the area earlier, and Huang Ming had checked it again before leaving. Now, all they had to do was climb back in.

Arriving under the window next to the lobby of Building 10, Huang Ming crouched down, letting Gu Anqing step on his shoulders to climb in.

Next was Li Chang'an. Exhausted from the earlier exertion, he struggled to get back inside.

Huang Ming scanned the surroundings, confirming it was safe, then leaped up, grabbing the window ledge.

Just as he was about to pull himself up, Li Chang'an shouted in alarm.

"Brother Huang, watch out behind you!"

Before the words fully registered,

Huang Ming felt something grab his calf. He instinctively kicked out, breaking free,

but before he could react, the zombie, seemingly tireless, lunged at his lower body again.

Huang Ming kept kicking, repeatedly pushing the zombie away. Every time he tried to pull himself up, the zombie would immediately latch onto him again.

Huang Ming had already thrown his katana inside. If he went back to the ground now, he'd be fighting the zombie bare-handed.

He didn't have time to pull another weapon from his spatial dimension.

With one hand gripping the window ledge, Huang Ming knew it was only a matter of time before his calf was scratched.

As the zombie bared its teeth and lunged again, Huang Ming, in a split-second decision, pulled out his pistol with his free hand.

*Bang!*

A heavy, resonant gunshot shattered the silence of the night.

The zombie's forehead now had a clean, through-and-through hole. It collapsed instantly, twitching a few times before going still.

Huang Ming pulled himself up with a burst of strength, leaping back inside.

"Let's go! The gunshot will attract attention. We can't stay here!"

As soon as Huang Ming landed, before he could check for injuries, he grabbed Gu Anqing's wrist and headed for the elevator.

Inside the elevator, Huang Ming pressed the buttons for the 15th, 17th, 23rd, and 25th floors.

"Fatso, get off at your floor. Let the elevator keep going up."

He spoke to Li Chang'an while bending down to check his calf. The nightwear was torn, but the tight-fitting clothes underneath were intact.

He cursed inwardly:

*Damn! If that zombie had been a bit more aggressive, I'd be done for!*

Huang Ming patted Li Chang'an's combat suit.

"Fatso! Remember to check for injuries when you get back. Disinfect your clothes too."

The elevator reached the 15th floor.

Huang Ming handed Li Chang'an some disinfectants and a small bag of high-calorie snacks. Li Chang'an had expended a lot of energy, and Huang Ming wanted to support him.

Gu Anqing, seeing Huang Ming pull items out of thin air, rubbed her eyes, wondering if she was hallucinating. Her eyes widened in disbelief.

"Thanks, Brother Huang. I'll message you on WeChat!"

As Li Chang'an's voice faded, the elevator doors closed. Huang Ming opened his apartment door and led Gu Anqing inside, finally back in the safety of his home.

As soon as he closed the door, Liu Shuang'er rushed over, eager to hug him, but he stopped her.

"Shuang'er, I'm covered in zombie blood. We need to clean up first."

Gu Anqing, standing to the side, kept glancing between Huang Ming and Liu Shuang'er, making the situation awkward.
