Chapter 31: The Struggle Within

The witches' woods pulsed with an eerie stillness, the air thick with the scent of damp earth and magic. Sophia sat on the moss-covered ground, her body trembling with the aftershocks of her power manifesting. The once-dead land beneath her had flourished, vibrant blooms sprouting in every direction, the trees thickening with lush greenery. It was breathtaking, but also terrifying.

Lucian stood a few feet away, his posture tense, fists clenched at his sides. He had teleported her here in a desperate attempt to restrain himself. Seeing Sean so close to her had sent something primal surging through him—jealousy, rage, possession. He knew he was walking a fine line between protecting her and losing control.

Sophia lifted her gaze, her golden eyes locking onto his. "Lucian... I don't understand what's happening to me. My body feels like it's shifting, like something inside me is waking up that I can't control. And you—" She swallowed hard. "You keep pushing me away."

His jaw tightened. He wanted to tell her the truth, that every time he looked at her, every time he heard her voice, his restraint cracked just a little more. That he wasn't pushing her away out of indifference, but because he was barely holding himself together.

"You need time to adjust to your powers," he said instead, his voice rough. "Your body is changing. If I let myself have you now... I won't stop. And you deserve more than to be claimed out of desperation."

Sophia's breath hitched. There was something devastatingly raw in his words. She wanted him—had always wanted him, even when she hadn't understood why. But the intensity in his eyes told her this wasn't just about desire; it was about something deeper, something terrifyingly irreversible.

Before she could respond, a gust of wind rustled through the trees. Whispers carried on the breeze, the sound of ancient voices echoing through the woods. The witches had sensed her. They were coming.

Lucian cursed under his breath. "We need to move. Now."

Sophia felt a chill creep up her spine. The struggle within her had only just begun.
