Chapter 25: A Villainess' Last Attempt at Freedom
Seraphina sat in front of the vanity, her once-messy hair now perfectly styled into flowing golden waves. The maids had worked tirelessly, pinning and curling each strand into something befitting a royal bride.
Bride.
She shuddered at the word.
Her reflection in the mirror mocked her.
The villainess of the otome game. The one doomed to a tragic ending.
And yet, here she was—not executed, not exiled, but instead, being forced into marriage.
To two people.
The very idea made her want to throw herself out of the nearest window.
Lila entered first, as graceful as ever, a teasing smile playing on her lips.
"You look beautiful," she said, tucking a stray curl behind Seraphina's ear.
Seraphina swatted her hand away. "I look like a hostage."
Lila sighed. "Hostages don't get silk wedding dresses and hand-embroidered veils."
"Tell that to my soul," Seraphina grumbled.
Damian entered next, uninvited, as usual. His dark eyes scanned her from head to toe before he smirked. "Not bad."
Seraphina glared at him. "I swear to the heavens, if you don't stop talking, I will bite you."
Damian raised an eyebrow. "You keep saying that, but you never do. Should I be concerned?"
Lila chuckled. "Maybe she's just shy."
Seraphina grabbed a hairbrush and hurled it at them. Damian dodged, but Lila simply caught it mid-air and gently placed it back on the vanity like a proper lady.
Seraphina, meanwhile, was contemplating setting fire to the wedding hall.
The problem was that the whole kingdom was involved now. She had tried appealing to the king, but the old man had simply laughed and declared, "Oh, how delightful! A villainess finally getting a happy ending! Let's make this the grandest wedding in history!"
Seraphina had nearly died on the spot.
Now, there was only one option left.
Escape.
Midnight.
Seraphina sat by her window, already dressed in black.
The castle was quiet, the night sky clear.
She had one chance.
Her escape plan was flawless. She had paid off a carriage driver, bribed a few guards, and even had a forged passport ready.
She could disappear, change her name, live a quiet life far from these two lunatics.
Taking a deep breath, she lowered herself from the window, gripping the rope she had tied earlier.
Her feet barely touched the ground when—
A hand grabbed her wrist.
She froze.
A familiar voice whispered in her ear.
"Going somewhere, my dear bride?"
Seraphina whirled around.
Damian stood there, dressed in his usual dark coat, his smirk infuriatingly confident.
Behind him, Lila appeared, looking unbothered as ever.
"I had a feeling you'd try something like this," Lila said, her voice smooth as silk.
Seraphina's eye twitched.
Damian leaned in, his grip tightening. "Now, now, my love. Running away the night before our wedding? How cruel."
"I hate you," Seraphina hissed.
Damian only chuckled. "And yet, you're stuck with us."
Seraphina looked between them, heart pounding.
…Was there truly no escape?
Lila took her other hand gently, her touch warm. "Come on, let's go back inside. You'll catch a cold."
Seraphina stared at them both, then at the dark, open road ahead.
Then—
With all her strength—
She kicked Damian in the shin, shoved Lila into a bush, and SPRINTED INTO THE NIGHT.
