Chapter 31: A Villainess vs. an Uninvited Guest

Chapter 31: A Villainess vs. an Uninvited Guest

Seraphina stared at the glowing red eyes outside her window, her soul attempting to evacuate her body.

"...Nope."

She immediately pulled the blanket over her head.

If she couldn't see it, it didn't exist.

CRASH!

The window rattled violently.

Seraphina yelped and peeked out.

Something—or someone—was trying to break in.

"…Is this karma? Is this because I declared a No-Touching Policy?!"

Her hands fumbled around for a weapon.

Pillow? No.

Candle holder? Too heavy.

Fancy hairbrush? Absolutely not.

BANG!

The window BURST OPEN.

A shadowy figure leapt inside.

Seraphina screamed and threw the first thing she could grab—

—A TEACUP.

SMACK!

The intruder stumbled backward.

"…OW."

Wait.

That voice was suspiciously familiar.

Seraphina squinted.

As the moonlight spilled into the room, the figure became clear.

Messy dark hair.

Crimson eyes.

A ridiculously handsome but slightly bruised face.

"…DAMIAN?!"

Damian rubbed his forehead. "Nice aim."

Seraphina grabbed another teacup. "WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING?!"

Damian held up his hands. "Calm down. I—"

Seraphina threw the second teacup.

Damian dodged. "SERAPHINA."

"DON'T SERAPHINA ME—WHO BREAKS INTO SOMEONE'S ROOM AT MIDNIGHT?!"

Damian sighed. "Look, I thought I saw a suspicious figure outside your window."

Seraphina's eye twitched. "And your first instinct was to jump through the window like a psychopath?!"

Damian grinned. "Worked, didn't it?"

Seraphina threw a pillow at his face.

Damian caught it effortlessly. "That's not a very effective weapon."

Seraphina grabbed a heavier one.

"Okay, okay," Damian chuckled, raising his hands in surrender. "I might have miscalculated. But in my defense, if there HAD been an assassin, you'd be thanking me."

Seraphina folded her arms. "I'd rather thank the assassin."

Damian smirked. "Harsh."

Just then—

Knock knock knock.

"Seraphina?"

Lila's voice.

Oh no.

Seraphina panicked.

If Lila saw Damian here at this hour, she would start an all-out war.

She turned to Damian. "HIDE. NOW."

Damian raised an eyebrow. "Why?"

KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK.

"Seraphina, are you awake?"

Seraphina shoved Damian toward the closet.

"Get in."

Damian laughed. "Are you serious?"

Seraphina picked up a vase. "DO YOU WANT ME TO MAKE YOU SERIOUSLY INJURED?"

Damian wisely got into the closet.

Seraphina hurried to the door and opened it slightly.

Lila stood there in her silk nightgown, holding a candle.

"…Are you okay?" Lila narrowed her eyes. "I heard screaming."

Seraphina forced a smile.

"Ahaha! That was just me… uh… seeing a spider! Yep. A really BIG spider."

Lila frowned. "You don't scream at spiders."

"…This one was different."

Lila peered past her. "Why is your window open?"

Seraphina blocked her view.

"Ventilation! Fresh air is important, you know."

Lila narrowed her eyes.

"…Are you hiding something?"

Seraphina sweated nervously.

"N-No."

Just then—

THUMP.

From inside the closet.

Lila's gaze snapped to it instantly.

"…Seraphina."

Seraphina laughed too quickly. "Hahaha—what a funny sound! Must be a, uh, a RACOON. Yes! A raccoon got into my closet."

Lila strode past her.

"Wait—WAIT, LILA—"

FLING!

Lila yanked the closet door open.

There was Damian.

Sitting on the floor.

Holding one of Seraphina's pink dresses.

A long silence.

Seraphina mentally prepared her will.

Lila smiled. Not the good kind.

The murderous kind.

"Damian."

Damian slowly put the dress back.

"…I can explain."

Lila cracked her knuckles.

"I suggest you run."

Damian leapt out of the closet.

"I SUGGEST YOU DON'T KILL ME."

Seraphina screamed.

"NOT IN MY ROOM—TAKE IT OUTSIDE, YOU PSYCHOS!"

And just like that—

All hell broke loose.
