Chapter 44: A Villainess Gets Stuck in an Awkward Love Triangle (Again!)
Seraphina had precisely ten minutes of peace before disaster struck.
Again.
—
Step One: Realize You Are Doomed.
She was halfway through her tea when the butler entered.
"Lady Seraphina, His Highness Prince Alexander has requested your presence."
Seraphina sighed.
"Of course, he has."
Before she could refuse—
Another servant ran in, panting.
"Duke Damian requests Lady Seraphina's presence at once!"
Silence.
Seraphina blinked.
"…Excuse me?"
The butler cleared his throat.
"There appears to be… a scheduling conflict."
Oh, you don't say.
—
Step Two: Witness a Dramatic Showdown.
By the time Seraphina got to the courtyard, Alexander and Damian were already glaring daggers at each other.
Again.
Great. Just great.
Alexander smiled sweetly.
"I believe I asked for Seraphina first, dear Duke."
Damian's voice was ice cold.
"And I believe I outrank you, Your Highness."
Oh no.
Seraphina massaged her temples.
"Can we just—"
Alexander took her hand.
"My dear Seraphina, won't you join me for a lovely stroll through the gardens?"
Damian grabbed her other hand.
"Or perhaps you'd prefer a carriage ride through the estate?"
Seraphina froze.
Both men were holding her hands.
The servants were whispering.
The tension was ridiculous.
She needed to escape.
Now.
—
Step Three: Make a Terrible Decision.
Seraphina cleared her throat.
"Actually, I was just about to—"
She spotted Lady Genevieve in the distance.
Perfect.
Seraphina yanked her hands free and waved at Genevieve.
"Genevieve! My dearest friend! Let's go have tea together!"
Genevieve stopped.
Her face screamed confusion.
"…We're friends?"
Seraphina linked arms with her anyway.
"Of course! Let's go!"
She dragged Genevieve away, leaving two very irritated vampires behind.
—
Step Four: Deal with an Angry Noblewoman.
Once they were a safe distance away, Genevieve ripped her arm free.
"Alright, what was THAT?!"
Seraphina sighed.
"A tactical retreat."
Genevieve narrowed her eyes.
"You just used me to escape a love triangle, didn't you?"
Seraphina sipped her tea.
"…Yes."
Genevieve crossed her arms.
"And why exactly should I help you?"
Seraphina grinned.
"Because it annoys Alexander and Damian."
Genevieve paused.
Then she smirked.
"…Fair point."
—
Step Five: Accept That This Will Happen Again.
Seraphina sighed.
At this rate, she would never be free.
If avoiding death in this world wasn't hard enough…
Why did she have to be surrounded by idiotically handsome vampires?!
