Chapter 83: A Villainess Deals with a Persistent Suitor

Seraphina paced in her room, glaring at her reflection in the mirror.

The necklace still sat around her neck.

Mocking her.

It wasn't her fault it looked so good on her.

Lila, lounging on the bed, grinned.

"So, when's the wedding?"

Seraphina threw a pillow at her.

"Shut up!"

Lila caught it effortlessly.

"I mean, if a man gave me a necklace that expensive, I'd at least consider it."

Seraphina groaned.

"You don't 'consider' a proposal from a manipulative, smug vampire lord!"

Lila smirked.

"Okay, but you're still wearing his gift."

Seraphina froze.

Then, with great determination, she yanked it off and stuffed it into a drawer.

Lila rolled her eyes.

"That'll last a whole five minutes."

Seraphina ignored her.

She had bigger problems.

Like getting Lucien to stop harassing her with gifts.

Later That Evening

Seraphina stormed into the grand ballroom, scanning the crowd.

Lucien was easy to spot.

Standing near the balcony, looking infuriatingly perfect in his dark suit, wine glass in hand.

He smirked the moment he saw her.

"Ah, my darling villainess. What a lovely surprise."

Seraphina marched up to him.

"Enough with the gifts!"

Lucien raised an eyebrow.

"You didn't like the necklace?"

Seraphina crossed her arms.

"That's not the point!"

Lucien took a slow sip of his wine.

"Then what is the point, my dear?"

Seraphina huffed.

"I don't need your expensive bribes!"

Lucien chuckled.

"Oh, Seraphina. You wound me. Do you think I'm trying to buy your affection?"

Seraphina glared.

"Yes."

Lucien grinned.

"Then I must not be doing it right."

Before she could throw her drink in his face, Damian appeared.

And he did not look amused.

"You again," Damian said, eyeing Lucien like he was something unpleasant.

Lucien sighed.

"Ah, Damian. Always so jealous."

Damian snorted.

"As if."

Seraphina pinched the bridge of her nose.

This was turning into a disaster.

And then—

Someone screamed.

The music halted.

A maid rushed into the ballroom, panting.

"T-The castle has been infiltrated!" she gasped.

"Assassins!"

Seraphina whirled around.

"…Excuse me, what?"

Lucien sighed.

"And here I thought tonight would be peaceful."

Damian cracked his knuckles.

"Guess not."

Seraphina groaned.

"Can I not have one normal evening?!"
