CHAPTER 40

  Alec's POV

  As I make my way down the flight of stairs and swing open the door to the main hall, my heart hammering in my chest as everyone in the room turns to look at me. Selena is standing at the center and her face lights up when she sees me. She darts across the room and throws herself at me, almost knocking me off my footing.

  "Alec! Did Body tell you? Isn't it amazing?" she asks as she pulls back and takes hold of my hands.

  I narrowed my eyes and her excitement quickly morphs into panic as she lets go of my hands and takes a few steps back.

  "Alec, you have to believe me," her voice trembled, urgency lacing her words. "I saw him. Kane is alive. We need to bring him home."

  I crossed his arms, a mixture of scepticism and concern etched on my face. "Selena, Kane died. We buried him. You can't just—"
