Then she suddenly remembered how Oliver was facing off against multiple enemies just moments ago and how she saw him fight those monsters despite them outnumbering him greatly, so she decided to fight back against the monster in front of her.
Mia clenched her teeth together hard and tightened her grip around the dagger that her son had given her before parting ways.
"I won't lose to a mere monster such as you!" She roared and charged forward, thrusting her weapon into the monster's chest.
However, before Mia could deal a fatal blow, the goblin knocked her aside with its club, sending her sprawling onto the ground.
"Ugh..." She grunted in pain from having been hit so hard.
Before she could recover, the creature leapt on top of her, pinning her down with its small frame and holding its club high above its head.
It looked like it wanted to smash Mia's skull into smithereens with its weapon.
She could feel her heart thumping loudly within her chest as sweat dripped from her forehead while staring at the deadly weapon looming over her.
Still, Mia refused to give up even though she understood how hopeless her situation appeared to be. She used both of her hands to push back the goblin from atop of her with all the strength she could muster in her arms.
This proved to be successful, however, due to the creature being smaller compared to her.
Once free, Mia kicked it in the balls as hard as she could, making the goblin curl up into a ball while groaning in pain.
"No matter what, male beings are the same whether it's a monster, a human, or a dog." She muttered under her breath as she picked up the club, which the goblin dropped, and began bashing it against its head.
"Ahhh... Take this! And this!" Mia kept swinging repeatedly while shouting out loudly each time.
Each hit sounded louder than the previous one as it echoed throughout the cave tunnel.
Soon enough, after hitting the creature multiple times, her anger subsided, and when she looked at the gory sight in front of her, she couldn't help but be disturbed by what she'd done.
Blood spilled out from the goblin's skull as pieces of broken bones lay scattered all over the ground.
The sight of its brain matter being crushed under the weight of Mia's club made her feel sick to her stomach. She dropped the weapon and ran away from the area without stopping.
She wanted to leave all that horror behind.
After running a few more meters forward, Mia eventually reached the end of the tunnel, where she came out into the open.
"Is this the way out?" She asked herself in astonishment at seeing an open sky above and trees around her.
Seeing such a sight before her eyes brought tears to Mia's face. For a moment, she felt relieved thinking that everything was over; however, soon she remembered her son and the danger he might be in at the moment.
"Oliver! Please be safe!" Mia prayed under her breath and waited for his return anxiously.
Back at the cave.
Oliver didn't know how long he had been running since the chase started; he also didn't remember the count of goblins he killed.
All he knew was that he had gone from one tunnel to another, leading the goblins around until he reached a dead end with no path further than here.
"The dead end... Fuck, this wasn't how I planned to stop the chase! I hope Mom managed to pass by unnoticed..."
He wanted to continue running deeper into the cave system, but since there was no passageway other than the one leading back to where he came from, Oliver stopped dead in his tracks.
"There's no way out of here. I guess this is as far as I can lead them," Oliver thought while glaring at all the goblins surrounding him.
"Kishaaaaah!" One of the bigger goblins roared as it came charging towards Oliver at full speed with its club swinging. The smaller ones began howling alongside it, while another group circled around to surround him completely, cutting off any escape routes he might have.
Oliver was surprised to see the creatures working together so perfectly like that.
Seeing how they acted in unison reminded him of a pack of animals working together to bring down its prey.
However, he didn't falter, and he didn't waste time either as he swore at the big goblin, "Fuck you, ugly pieces of shit! I will come back and hunt every last one of you bastards someday."
With that, he disappeared again, just as the larger goblin's club smashed against the ground with a loud bang, making debris fly all over the area.
The creature was infuriated to see its target disappear in front of it, and it began searching frantically for its target.
It was no use though, as Oliver was already gone.
He had teleported right behind Mia, who was waiting near the entrance to the tunnel.
"Oliver! You're safe! Thank God!" Mia shouted happily upon seeing her son standing before her.
However, Oliver didn't look so well, and he slumped forward, panting hard as if he was about to pass out at any second.
Mia panicked at seeing her son looking so worn out, but before she could speak, Oliver held up his hand.
"No need to worry, Mom. I'm fine..." He breathed heavily, but he managed to force a smile as he reassured his mother, "I just used my ability too much. It seems like I'm not able to teleport to long distances yet, and if I overdo it, it drains my energy too fast."
Then he fell down on his knees and laid himself on the ground to rest.
"I'm sorry. I couldn't help you, Oliver... Please forgive your mommy for being useless," Mia apologized with tears welling up in her eyes.
"No... it's not like that. You did nothing wrong, Mom. If anything, I'm glad you're here with me." Oliver comforted her and added with a wry smile, "I don't know what I would have done without you by my side."
