Your Day By Day Buddy, Y/N

- The Next Day -

You were walking to work at No-Account Video for your morning shift at 11:30am, and you'd arrived at the same time as Kim, who held a cup of coffee in her hands.

"Hey there, Kim. Sleep well?" You greeted as she walked beside you.

"No. Sara brought over a guy and... Actually, that's none of your business." Kim quickly diverted the conversation.

"Fair." You nodded. "I didn't intend on hearing more than that, anyway. Details? No thank you."

"Thanks." Kim replied, and the two of you entered the rental store.

"It's almost 11:30am, slackers!" Hollie joked as she greeted you both, then turning to Kim. "...Aww, you didn't bring me one?"

"What, a coffee? Hollie, I've got some bad news. I hate you, okay?" Kim responded.

"You hate everyone, Kim." Hollie retorted as she leaned over the desk to see you. "Well, almost everyone."

"Guess what? You're one of everyone." Kim sassed. "And as for Y/N here, they're just not unlikeable."

"I'm... flattered?" You shrugged, not sure how to feel.

"Have you always been this way?" Hollie questioned, leaning back in her chair.

"What way?" Kim replied, sipping her coffee.

"Like, uh, a mostly hateful bitch?" Hollie elaborated, and Kim rolled her eyes.

"Maybe I was a happy kid." Kim suggested, and shrugged.

"I can't even imagine." Hollie admitted.

"I'm sure Kim's past wasn't so angsty..." You said, nervously grinning.

"No, she's right. I was like this totally serious kid, and this totally angsty teenager. I probably only smiled and laughed when I was deluded into thinking it would make some jerk like me." Kim said, sighing.

"Oh, come on, Kim. I'm sure someone's liked you. Someone had to, right?" You encouraged, but Kim didn't look too optimistic.

"I hate how optimistic you are sometimes, you know that?" Kim commented.

"Well, it's true. You're a pretty cool chick, Kim. Anyone'd be lucky to have you as a friend." You shrugged, smiling. "I know I am."

"Just... quit it with the compliments..." Kim sighed.

"Sorry." You apologized, but you were still smiling.

"Whatever." Kim mumbled, and took a sip of her coffee.

"Kim, you're a holy terror, and I'm glad you're on my side. Do you want me to put a movie on? I'm gonna go get some coffee." Hollie said, and got up.

"Ooh, can you put something really morbid and horrible and Japanese?" Kim requested, and Hollie did exactly that before leaving.

Just after Hollie left, Scott took center stage and came into the store. "Hooray, it's Scott Pilgrim. Cue applause." Kim said sarcastically.

"Bravo." You played into the joke, slowly clapping.

"Oh, cool, you both still work here." Scott said, looking around the store and walking to the counter. "So, I have to rent- Um- I have a list, hold on."

"I'm gonna stop you right there, buckaroo." You interrupted him. "No debt paid, remember? You're free of my services until you actually pay off your debts."

"Yeah, what are you even doing here? You know about the universal ban on you guys' accounts." Kim added, bringing up Scott's debt on the PC.

"What? Why?" Scott asked.

"Um... let's see... Ove $1000 in late fees between you and Stills?" Kim said, looking through the accounts.

"With you owning a little over 50% of that." You stated, pointing at the screen.

"I thought you erased all that!" Scott exclaimed.

"Yeah, right! Like I'm worth a thousand dollars to this place!" Kim replied. "Maybe Y/N, but not me."

"Aww, thanks, Kim." You smiled, and she didn't acknowledge you.

"Can I rent these on your account?" Scott asked.

"Five movies? As if!" Kim responded, and shook her head.

"I'll do you a solid. You can borrow one on my account." You offered. "Just three, though."

"Better than nothing, I guess. Thanks, Wyenn." Scott sighed, and accepted the offer.

"Yeah, whatever." Kim shrugged off as she read the list. "What are these- What's the connection? Why, Scott?"

"It's this dude. This guy Lucas Lee." Scott replied.

"Second ex?" You asked, already making a guess. Scott nodded. "Figured."

"Oh, right. The actor. 'Let's Hope There's a Heaven'. That was actually good. The rest of these are bad." Kim commented. "Wasn't he on the cover of NOW last week?"

"Yeah, he's in town, and like Wyenn said, he's Ramona's second ex. Wallace figured it out, too." Scott explained.

"So, what's your plan, Scott?" You inquired, raising an eyebrow.

"I thought about training by watching his movies, and then go find and fight him." Scott answered, and shrugged.

"What?!" Kim asked, and from the absurdity of the plan, she sounded frustrated.

"Yeah, not exactly a solid plan, man." You added.

"It's a long story, okay? Read the book sometime. Anyway, he's evil, and I have to fight him if I want to keep daring Ramona." Scott explained further, scratching his head.

"Oh, yeah. Your new girlfriend." Kim's tone was bitter on that part. "How do you know all this, anyway? Are you stalking the guy?"

"Call it a guttural guess, but Wallace probably told Scott everything. If there's a man that knows a lot about male celebrities he finds hot, it's him." You explained, and Scott nodded.

"Wallace who?" Kim asked as she took the three movies starring Lucas Lee off the shelves.

"Wallace Wells! Wyenn and I's cool gay roommate?" Scott replied.

"Technically, we're the roommates. It's his house." You corrected.

"Oh, right." Kim remembered, nodding. "How did you two end up living with that guy, anyway?"

"I'd rather not talk about it." Scott quickly dismissed the topic.

"Is it a really gay story?" Kim questioned.

"The story is somewhat gay, yes." Scott replied, hands in pockets.

"And you?" Kim turned her attention to you.

"Scott begged me to live with him and Wallace. But since I have the Virtual World, I don't take up much space, so... he let me slide." You shrugged.

"Uh-huh. Anyway, Just- Just how is Lucas Lee evil?" Kim asked.

"He's..." Scott started, but didn't continue.

"Do you know? Do you have any idea?" Kim questioned, raising an eyebrow.

"Yeah, Wallace... told... me..." Scott spoke slowly.

"You have no idea, do you?" You pointed out.

"Oh! Oh! He's evil because he's a sellout!" Scott seemed to have an "eureka!" moment.

"What?" You and Kim questioned in unison, confused.

"Or... or he sold out because he's evil. I forget." Scott hesitated.

"Just drop it for now. I'll pay for your movies." You offered, and reached into your pocket to grab some cash.

"You're really not deserved, Y/N." Kim commented.

- Later, at Wallace's house -

"Scott, here's my dossier on Lucas Lee. Did you start watching those movies?" Wallace asked.

"If you turn your head slightly, you'll notice that one of them is playing right now." Scott pointed out with a sassiness to his voice.

"Okay, so, lots of stuff here... Pro skater turned movie star... blah blah blah... You wouldn't be interested in this part... He's a sellout, I already told you that..." Wallace continued, skimming through his notes.

"Damn, what happened first? Turning evil or being a sellout?" You questioned.

"Dunno, nothing I found online or on the news was really clear." Wallace replied.

"Do I have to do any 'special training,' or can I go back to playing Tony Hawk?" Scott asked, about done watching Lucas Lee's movies.

"It's not 'playing,' Scott. It's training." Wallace corrected.

"Okay, can I go back to training?" Scott replied, a bit frustrated.

"Do five hundred push-ups." Wallace demanded, and Scott's eyes and mouth went wide.

"What?! Aww... this sucks! What the hell!" Scott complained. "Forget that! I'm not gonna do all that!"

"Okay then." Wallace turned to you. "Wyenn, whip him."

"What?! Dude, no!" You denied. "Why?!"

"No pain, no gain." Wallace shrugged.

"Pain you're supposed to cause yourself, not have someone else cause!" You retorted.

"Fine! Five hundred push-ups!" Scott gave in. "I hate training with you! You're a terrible master!"

"Suck it up." Wallace said as he got up, sat on the couch, and began playing videogames.

Hey, that gave you an idea... "Wait, hold up. Scott, let's use the Virtual World for training. I can simulate any enemy without problem. And I can tweak the difficulty in case it's too easy or too hard."

"You're barely suggesting that?" Wallace asked, raising an eyebrow.

"And you thought about telling me, since you came up with the idea first?" You retorted playfully.

"Touché." Wallace simply replied, and continued playing videogames.

"C'mon, to the VW!" You called out, opening the portal to the VW.

- One training montage later -

You were once again in Stephen's house, rehearsing your next routine for Sex Bob-Omb's light show. And you rocked out so hard, after the rehearsals, Stephen had a cold towel on his head and looked quite tired.

In Neil's room, you seemed to be chilling with everyone. Until Neil took a flier he'd presumably grabbed from the street earlier. "Have you seen the cover of the NOW?"

"Yes!" Scott, annoyed and through gritted teeth, answered.

You took the flier and began reading. The cover featured the three members of The Clash at Demonhead. "'Montereal art-rockers make beautiful noises'. Uh...' Bam! Pow! Fanfiction isn't for kids anymore!' Yeah, no shit." You thought to yourself on that last part.

"'Halifax: Threat or Menace?' 'Make headlines, Believe them, Come back'. 'Kitties are cute'... They sure are..." You skimmed through the rest, which was mostly just random bullshit.

"I dunno, I think it's great that they're getting recognized." Stephen argued.

"It's not cool!" Scott insisted, taking the flier from your hands.

"Come on, man. At least one of us made it." Stephen defended himself.

"It isn't over! We're gonna destroy her stupid pretentious crappy art shool poser band!" Scott yelled as he took a pillow and began smacking Stephen.

"Do I detect some latent hostility?" Kim, unsurprised, commented.

"We'll shine brighter than them! We have our light show." Scott turned to you. "Spray paint all over their faces on the flier, Y/N. We'll paste it on the wall. We're gonna kick their asses."

"My art doesn't hate, man." You denied. "But if it makes you feel better, I can paint something really, really big somewhere. I'll even outline it with neon."

"They're just good, man. Have you heard their CD? I'll lend it to you." Stephen offered, and Scott groaned.

"You're fired!" Scott exclaimed, pointing at Stephen.

"And you're fired up over nothing." You replied. "Give it a break."

- The Next Day, Wallace's house -

- RING RING -

"Y/N, could you?" Wallace asked as he continued playing videogames.

"On it." You answered both Wallace and the phone. "Talk to me."

"Wyenn! Hi! Is Scott there?" Knives' voice could be heard from the other side of the line.

"Nope, sorry. He's out, currently. He'd said he'd be back, though." You replied, shrugging. "What's the question for?"

"Ohh... well... I was going to ask if I could go over there and maybe go out for coffee or something?" Knives seemed to get nervous.

"I really don't want to pry into your private life, but... are you still uncomfortable with Sex Bob-Omb- You know, after the unannounced break-up?" You questioned, hoping you weren't invading her privacy.

"Kinda... I just find it awkward to see Scott there." Knives confessed. "I really like Sex Bob-Omb and all, but..."

"Don't need to explain, Knives. I get it." You responded. "Look, I can help you with that. Just try to let out the awkwardness somehow. Think of what would make you feel better."

"Make me feel better... Okay, I got it!" Knives seemed to have an idea. "I think I know what could help."

"That's the spirit. Now go get em'." You encouraged her.

"Thanks, Wyenn." Knives replied before hanging up.
