Chapter 18

EMILY POV

My heart pounded as I stared into his raging eyes. I knew Christian’s sudden interest in my children meant trouble, and the last thing I needed was for him to find out the truth.

I had kept silent as he accused James of being their father, letting the accusations linger in the air, so Christian might think it's true. If he thought James was their father, he would stop asking his questions and drop the idea of the paternity test.

But I couldn't shake the unease in my gut that things were unravelling too quickly. Christian was more insistent than I imagined.

I knew he would question the paternity of my children and try to claim them, but he was too focused on the matter and he kept trying to find out the truth.

I squared my shoulders, standing tall and holding his gaze. “I’ll prove it to you and everyone who doubted me,” I said my voice hard with determination.

I gave him one last glance, shooting daggers at him before I spun on my heel to storm out of the office.
