Synopsis

"I am humanity's last hope, torn by demons. The burden rests on me alone."

The sky drop in 2030. Black and white meteorites landed on Earth and set off forces not ready for human experience.

The black stones brought corrupt practices and horrible mutations. Though at what expense the white stones provided gifts and comfort?

The earth sank. Older borders disappeared. Once considered legends, creatures reappeared, and the first portals to hell opened in metropolitan areas.

Among this anarchy, one power emerged singularly : The World Government.

Though behind its words was total control, it promised peace and rebuilding.

Born in this new order as a holy branch of the government under the charismatic man Klein Illias Seraphiel, the New Church emerged.

Alleged Pope, praised as a prophet, but secretly known as a demon.

Only one man stood against this new order : Kang Soo Jin.

A rebel, falsely accused of many crimes he never committed. Captured, tortured, and executed.

But before dying, he swore to return.

Since then, rumors have spread. Kang Soo Jin will return, and it will not be for forgiveness.

Captain again with a shameless criticism. This is my first novel so I hope you can teach me a lot of things to improve and create more perfect stories.

I read all the available chapters in one sitting lol. That's a first for me. The world building of this novel is amazing and I feel like I'm really gonna love the MC—loved reading about his background. The only thing I have an issue with so far is the paragraphing. Some paragraphs were way too long and packed together. I struggled reading some parts. If it's a personal writing preference, then you don't have to change it. I'm just pointing it out. Overall, I'm looking forward to reading more.

With its somber vibe right from the start. The story follows Jin, a guy drowning in guilt and anger, stuck by Annabelle’s side in a hospital room that feels more like a prison. The writing’s got this raw, emotional edge—think dimly lit corridors and the faint beep of machines—that pulls you deep into Jin’s messy headspace. Chapter 11, “The Road of Tears,” had me hooked with its quiet intensity, balancing despair with these tiny glimmers of hope. The pacing’s slow, almost like a funeral march, but it works for the heavy stuff they’re tackling—grief, redemption, maybe even love if you squint. There’s a bigger world hinted at, possibly with some fantasy vibes, though it’s still unfolding. Side characters like Ginny add intrigue without stealing the spotlight. It’s not perfect—sometimes it lingers too long on Jin’s brooding—but if you’re into character-driven tales that hit you in the feels, this one’s a solid pick. Just don’t expect a fast-paced romp. It’s a slow burn that sticks with you.

This story is really really really good. The characters, the world, the flow and pacing are executed so well, with care and intention. My only slight criticism is that in the prologue, the history of how the world came to be this way is really crammed, I wish it was more spaced out and given to us in bits and pieces throughout the story. The History itself is really solid and deserves a better presentation.

The concept in this novel is unique and truly creative—it's very intriguing. However, I think the author should have, instead of writing four prologues, integrated those events more naturally into the chapters—either through unfolding history, memories, or something similar—instead of presenting them directly as info-dumps. Also, dear author, try to reduce reliance on third-person narration and include more internal thoughts so we can connect with the character and feel their emotions. As it is now, with just narration, there’s not much emotional impact, and it’s also harder to visualize the scenes. So in my personal opinion, the idea behind the novel is brilliant and holds tremendous potential, but it hasn’t been used to its full extent due to what I see as some missteps in execution. I believe you should work on improving those aspects, and then your novel could truly become something great. I hope you take this feedback with an open mind, author—these are just my personal opinions and suggestions for improvement. You’re free to take them or leave them. In the end, I wish you all the best and much success. Good luck!

Ashen Requiem by Ophicius offers a captivating start to a sci-fi adventure. The concept of mysterious meteorites appearing in the solar system is intriguing and sets the stage for an engaging narrative. The writing is clear, and the pacing keeps the reader interested. While the story is still in its early chapters, it shows great potential for developing into a compelling tale. Sci-fi enthusiasts looking for a new series to follow might find this novel worth exploring.

Before I begin, understand that I fully recommend this story. Not only is it good now, but with how the story progresses, it could be one of the greats. This story is different from a lot of the stories I’ve read on here. Rather than the main character being the most important figure in the universe and every event in the world centering them, it feels like Ashen Requiem takes place in a lived in world that had decades, if not centuries of history before our main character was even born. In the first 5 chapters, we are told about the fall of the world, the New Church, Safe Zones, Purified Zones, white meteors and more. This story has one of the most interesting premises I’ve ever seen, but the way these ideas are presented leaves a bit to be desired. It’s presented as almost sort of a report, and while it is very concise and easy to read, ultimately its not that exciting. I understand this is the prologue (this style of writing does drop off after chapter 5) but it is also the beginning of the story, the first impression. That’s just my personal opinion though do not feel pressured to change anything. That minor gripe did not hamper my enjoyment and it did not stop me from really getting invested in the story. More than anything else, I'm interested in who I assume will be the main villian Klein Illias Seraphiel. All my previous complaints about the style do not apply to chapter 2, whichh perfectly established the mystery of this figure. Overall, I love the characters, the world and the power system are extremely unique and I would highly recommend the story to any WebNovel fan.

As far as I've read, THIS IS IT. It has mystery, thriller, tragedy, fantasy, and a PLOT that would make you stuck in this book world. This is power packed. Give it a read and you'll never be bored

The world building is beyond perfect. Why do I say so, it is written in a way that the story flows seamlessly, nowhere I have been confused about a certain character or introduction of a a certain location, the book is amazing and for me what I have loved more thus far is the how the character has been described and his history told out in detail from the start instead of seeing how it plays out as I go, which makes its easier to understand the story flow.

A dark, ambitious post-apocalyptic fantasy. At its core is Kang Soo Jin, a tragic, overpowered antihero who rises from persecution to become a terrifying symbol of resistance. It reads like a hybrid between Dante's Inferno, Code Geass, and Reverend Insanity. Really good!
